a new customer signed up for our site last night and somehow paid using a coupon or gift certificate but we never issued any to the customer.. especially not for the entire order total..

The invoice lists Gift Certificate/Coupon as the payment method.. In fact we have no gift certificates issued at all and no coupons or offers running at all right now.. how did this person manage to not pay for the item and yet checkout?

I'd say we have a serious glitch here..

What version of Zen Cart are you using?
Have you applied the security fixes posted last week?

Sounds like you have an Old version of Zen Cart ...

There was a circumstance where some combination of checkout came up with a $0.00 balance and read as a GV or Discount was used, even though it was not ...

I would recommend strongly upgrading your site to eliminate this issue ...

I had the same problem last night (2nd Nov 2006).
A customer used one of our discount codes, selected Credit Card as the payment method, but on the checkout page the option Gift Certificate/Coupon was shown. We don't even have that as a payment option!
(Note: It was NOT a zero value order and other people have used the same discount without a problem, and we are unable to reproduce the problem).

Have you an URL to your shop?

What Product(s) did they order?

What kind of coupon did they have? How is it configured? NOTE: we do not need to know the coupon code so no one tries to just use it on your site ...

Hey there. One of my clients' is having the exact same problem. She's had two orders go through as Gift Certificate/Coupon with no other payment, although they only used 10% off coupons. Here's some info:

* www.bellabalibeads.com
* version 1.3.02 (can't upgrade until client gives the go ahead)
* both used coupons for 10% off, although they were two different coupons (percentage only, no restrictions)
* this probably doesn't mean anything, but I did notice that both orders were in-state orders (OH)
* the order totals were VERY different
* they didn't order the exact same products, although there was an overlap of one product (Romantic...large bead)

I'm absolutely stumped on this one! Any ideas what could be causing it?

Joined up to my own website today as a customer to test the "welcome" message...glad I did....for some reason a £10 gift voucher code was issued.....certainly don't want to do that.....is this a similar problem to the opening poster?

New Signup Gift Voucher Amount
Leave blank for none
Or enter an amount ie. 10 for $10.00

What did you set there? If you have 10.00 you set: send out $10.00 with each create account ...

Ditto what Linda said! I had that happen to me at first, too, and it was quite a shock! =) Unfortunately for me, it's not the same problem the original poster and I are having. I can only hope for such a (relatively) easy answer! =)

rvagrrl, your issue is most likely handled in upgrading to v1.3.6 where the checks and balances are much more secure and prevent odd checkouts and ensure that payment methods are properly selected ...
