I had also in mind to use something like this. I downloaded and tested AJAX code in topic server.

This kind of style is very nice but I am trying to follow zen cart logic.

That's why I am doing it this way.

As you may noticed, when customer configures his PC , and goes to step 2, he is being presented with all details, and then when he goes to final step, a new product ( customer's PC ) is being inserted into the shop.

So, the main idea is that Admin configures all product groups through admin->configuration->PC Configurator , then add products to specific categories.

Customer builds the PC , a new product is being created in category Custom PC , and then customer is being directly redirected to this product's info page, to buy it.

Well, the main idea works fine and it has good functionality but now I am working on needed details.

I think yours is a good solution, and best of all it's already working ;).

I'm developing mine this way, since some people requested (in the past, not now) these features.

I didn't explained, but my intention is that when someone finish to configure his product, all the items in the temporary cart are 'flushed' to the main cart and the process go on with standard checkout.

I'm trying to develope this thing as a stand-alone functionality, so it may be used everywhere, just changing the bridge to the core system.

I understand what your intention is, and your module will be very nice.

The main function I use is almost like yours.

Customer gather products[items] ( without preparing temporary shopping cart items ) and then, all these items are parts of a new product which is being automatically inserted into database in category Custom PC.

When my module is done, it will be easily customizable to produce any kind of "product constructor" ; some examples are :

1. Configurator for Motorcycles and Cars

2. Configurator for Gift Sets

3. Configurator for Office Supplies

4. Configurator for Clothing ( like yours )

5. Configurator for Photo printing Shops

and many other, whatever is needed.

Well, my module could start working now, (and I need it now because I want to use it in my shop [ I sell computer-consumables and Internet Services - conections - hosting - web site creation etc ] BUT I am also thinking all other members of this community, who would like to use this module and customize it for their needs.

So I am thinking to run it on my shop, and keep developing it, testing on local server or in other pages on my shop and keep writing any news in this thread.

Next days I hope I can manage to pack what's done for now and upload it here in this thread. Unfortunatelly I had a little accident and I can't work so much these days.

Please inform us, if you have posted any part of your code.

Searching on this forum, I found a post of someone who was asking money for a PC Configurator "thing" !!!

As you noticed, I do not hesitate to post my code here. Anyone can use it and say it's his own code. I do not mind ! I just feel the need to help this community, as I has been helped many times and I downloaded many modules to use for me and my clients.

So, the code I write is not mine. It is Zen's code ! I just have the idea.

Well, I would be very happy to take a look at your code if you don't mind.

Hello.

Does anybody know a way to produce a page (screen) just to show the product information and nothing else?

We need this template because, when customer selects a product in the drop down list, he can also see the details of this product in a pop up window by pressing the link beside the drop down list and this way we load everything but we only need to show product info page.

Please if anybody knows a way, inform me

This UPLOAD is just for testing.

Some changes has to be made in 2 files.

But you can start adding products when you install it to use YOUR PC Configurator in Zen Cart. Then you come back here to download new files.

Thank you Charis, I have downloaded this and it seems ok apart from a couple of things i'm not sure of, When going through the options of what you want in the custom PC should you be adding them to cart as individual items and then it makes the new PC or do you do something else? Secondly in the configuration i have changed the options to show what i want to offer the customers a choice of (case, motherboard Etc, about 12 in total), but when you go to the configurator on site it shows all options, Is this correct?
