    Default HAZMAT surcharges

    Hello all,

My client wishes to add several products that are classified as HAZMAT. How do I flag a product as HAZMAT? Once flagged I need to add the surcharge to the total order, and then calculate tax without the surcharge as it is not taxable.

Step 1: Identify product as HAZMAT and flag it
    Step 2: Apply surcharge fee
Step 3: Upon purchase, calculate tax without the surcharge

I am a bit lost on how to approach this, any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

You could also clone one of the Order Total modules such as Low Order Fee ot_loworderfee.php but reverse this to a positive charger based on how many items in the cart have the flag for HAZMAT ...

If this is a manufacturers_id that could be the flag for the item count ...

    Thank you Merlin and Ajeh,

Is there a class built into the shopping cart that can count items that have specific attributes?

I envision utilizing Merlin's suggestion of giving HAZMAT items an attribute of HAZMAT, then counting them in a new module as Ajeh suggested.

    Thank you again.

If you set them as a default radio button, ( use the drop down attribute with 1 variable )
then the client will see the amount of the hazmat and it will show on the invoice

Thank you Merlin, now I just need to track down the method used in the shopping cart to work with products that have attributes.

Would the environmental handling fee charge mod not be suitable?

    Hi Chuckl,

Thanks for that link. It looks like it may do the trick. The auction attributes mod that goes with it is not working for me yet. I am working on it though, thanks for saving me from re-inventing the wheel.

    Hello,

The environmental handler module did not work out as expected with my client's shop setup. Back to actual programming. I have searched the forums for how to flag an item via an attribute but have come up empty.

The procedure I am creating will go like this:

After taxes - products in the shopping cart with a HAZMAT attribute will have $20 added to the total for each HAZMAT item.

How do I identify attributes in zenCart?

    Thank you

    Ok

    here goes,

IF YOU use a dropdown attribute called hazmat with a single choice it wiill highlight by default and cant be turned OFF,

it will then add it to the cost and will break out per product,

you dont have to display it seperatly since its already clearly stated on the invoice and the customer sees it right up front,

so there is no need to pull the info out seperatly
