    Default New store cc processing

    Hi All,

I am hoping that someone has the answer to my question regarding setting up an online store.

I am setting up a site for a local dressmaking shop they want to start selling online to compliment their on-site sales.

They have in-store credit card processing facilities so presumably they have a merchant account with their bank. Things are not too far from being ready to launch the site and now I have to set up the CC processing/payment module.

My question is, what details do I need from the client to set up the cc payment module? Is there set details that I can ask for and use to get things working.

Is there a definitive answer or is it a "piece of string" question?

Hope someone can help me ;-)

    Thanks in anticipation
    D

There is a "piece of string" element to this. Mainly because mechant accounts are configured and work differently to each other. But I don't think this is going to be too complex in this case.

Firstly, being authorized to take in-store transactions does not automatically qualify your client to take "customer not present" or "online" transactions. These are higher risk for the merchant processor and are often agreed separately, possibly with different fee structures. So first question to the client will be about whether they are able to process these transactions at all.

Then you will need to determine whether they are going to process them manually (which for a local dressmaking store" would seem the most sensible approach, or want them to be processed automatically.

If it's the latter you're going to need to know who their merchant processor is, and work out whether there's a payment module available for Zen Cart that supports their service.

If they're going to process the transactions themselves then they will be receiving an email with half the card details and will find the other half in the Admin against the order (split for security reasons). They will need to know how to match them up and process the transaction to their merchant account as a customer not present transaction. You will need to know only the email account to which half the info will be sent.

In addition to kuroi's thoughts, here are some FAQs to look at:

If additional services are needed, you'll find some CC processing vendors in the "partners" area -- see link at the very top of this page.

Not necessarily. Processing transactions through their existing terminal may involve no additional expenditure. Processing online may involve additional setup fees, extra monthly fees and higher transaction costs, as well as extra effort (and cost?) for you to set it up. All of which may be completely disproportionate for the type of business that you described.

...okay - I got news back from the client - their merchant account does allow online/customer not present transactions and at no extra cost - makes a nice change!

So... what are the details that I need from the bank? What should i ask them for?
or will they tell me what I need?

...sorry if that sounds back to front!

The question is still - Do they want to process the transactions from the online shop automatically or manually?

If they do manually, set up the stock CC module with the split numbers.

If they do automatic, you need to find out what gateway the bank uses.
