Thank you very much for that. I actually already use the Improved Attributes Controller (i should have noted that, sorry) and it is indeed a big time saver. I guess i was looking for more of a multiple product at once tool. But i'll take what i can get and that does help. Thank you again for the suggestion.

Now as I think about your question, there is another possibility. If you "Price by attribute", you could use Easy Populate to add the attributes to a whole category in one pass. Set up the attributes and then download an "Attributes" file. Open it in Excel, add all the product numbers in the first column and then copy ALL the attribute columns down for your newly added products. Put a price in the attributes you want to add, save the file (in text format) and upload it with Easy Populate to the database. All the attributes will be added to each product. If all of the attributes have the same price, the base price is set to zero and the product is marked "Price by attributes" = YES, then the total price will be the price of the attribute. OR you might be able to just set the base price to what you want, leave the product marked "Price by attribute"=NO, and set the attribute price to zero (haven't tried this yet).

    Candy,

Am I incorrect in saying that all you are trying to do is add
4, 4.5, 5 ...through... 11 on every item in your store?

Then you would go into the Products with attributes stock and add each number of shoe available per shoe name?

I hadn't thought if that. That is a good idea. I do not set prices by attribute, but i still might be able to use Easy Populate to accomplish this. I haven't tried that feature/mod yet but I will mess around with it and see what i can come up with. thX a lot!

Well, kind of. I am trying to add all shoe sizes to every product in the 'Shoes' category. (not to every product in the entire store) But you get the general idea.

Then you would go into the Products with attributes stock and add each number of shoe available per shoe name?

That is what i am trying to avoid if i can help it. I have no problem doing it this way if i can't find a more efficient method. But if i can find a way to add all shoe sizes to all products in the 'Shoes' category in a more efficient shot, that would be a huge time saver for our initial setup. It won't be such a big deal later when we are just adding a few new pairs of shoes at a time but right now we are adding a lot. thX though.

If i can use a cool little trick with Easy Populate as mauryg described, then all i really still have to figure out is how to hide sizes of shoes not in stock with the 'Cherry Zen' template.

thX again everyone for your great help! I am very quickly starting to see that i made the right decision by choosing Zen Cart just with the community support alone.

    Candy,

I have confirmed that using EasyPopulate with the Attributes spreadsheet and setting the v_attribute_values_price column for EACH of the sizes to '0' (zero) WILL ADD that attribute to each of the products with NO PRICE. You will need to have a separate row in the spreadsheet for each shoe style. So if the price is the same regardless of size, this will add the size selection feature to each of the shoes. The price will be the base price if the "Price with Attributes" is set to NO. Once that is done you may find that "Stock with Attributes" will treat each of the sizes as a separate product and maintain the inventory for you.

    Hope this helps.

That is fantastic mauryg! thX so much for going the extra mile and then some. It is truly appreciated and will save a lot of setup time.

Also, i want to thank everyone again for being so nice to someone who is new to the neighborhood. It didn't take long for me to feel at home.

P.S. Since i've gotten such great help, i thought i'd push my luck and ask again about hiding out of stock attributes. Any help would still be great. There seems to be some good starting suggestions here but i've still had no luck nor have i via searching the forums.

Default Stocks by attributes - Multiple attributes

    Hi,

Sorry if this has been posted, I've been searching the thread but don't see an answer.

I have one product with 2 attributes. When i try to add stock i get 2 drop down boxes, 1 for each attribute. You must select a value from each drop down box and enter the quantity.

My problem is that my attributes are not related, the product is made up fo 2 articles, eg a football strip, you buy one outfit and it is made up of a shirt and shorts. I have different quantities and different sizes, so i need to enter the quantities independantly.

Anyone had the same problem, any ideas.

    Cheers
    Andy

Stock by Attribute doesn't differentiate between attribute combinations created individually through the Admin, or in bulk through Easy Populate. It's happy to work with either. Though it would still be necessary to add the stock on combination at a time.

Actually your attributes aren't really attributes in the way in which Zen cart understands the term. They are two physically separate products combined to create a product bundle.

Zen Cart can't handle this at present. Indeed, to do so would require a very different data structure to that currently used. The complexity is that the sale of a particular product bundle (e.g. red shirt + blue shorts)can affect the stock of other product bundles (e.g. white shirt + blue shorts and yellow shirt + blue shorts). Handling this inter-dependancy between product bundles is not part of core code, nor to my knowledge planned to be added.

The best that I can suggest is treating your products as separate products (red shirt, white shirt, yellow shirt and blue shorts) and then linking each shirt to appropriate colored shorts, and visa-versa, via the cross-sell module. Otherwise it would require a ton of custom development.
