Is it possible to put an attribute on to the product page with the short description in order to save a step for some people?

Attributes are displayed on the product page, do you mean product listing page where several products are in rows

I am looking to save a step for people during their shopping experience....
one less click for some people matters to them (shrug)

Unfortunately, the listing page is not set up to process attributes. This reportedly can be done, but requires advanced coding and database knowledge.

Xanfar, did you manage to solve this? Could you tell us what pages and what code changes were needed? I have a similar issue.

DocRock, I will be working on this very soon. My client needs it late this month so as soon as I finish I will post what I can for future help of others like yourself. I'm glad I am not the only one with this interest.
