CuteFTP - GRRR Its Corrupted Some Files - HELP!

I use CuteFTP Professional for uploads to my site and its been ok for many years but lately i have been getting disconnections and PureFTP files which take ages to delete from my catalog folder ( zen cart folder ) - Anyways cutting to the chase somethings been corrupted and its in my latest backup too.

Login and Logoff both show blank white pages.

Checkout Page 2 shows a blank page.

Create Account - Can't create one it shoes a blank page after inputting details and clicking on to create the account.

Basically everything seems ok except everything to do with the login and account checkout procedures.

One other thing i notice i have lost the CSS buttons.


This is so annoying and i have had a whole week of constant problems which started with easy populate ( which ruined 3 months work )

My website is starting from scratch now and i really don't want to start yet again.

Anyway to fix this problem without re-doing the work i have currently done ?

Debug doesn't seem to work for me and i tried installing but got nothing but more blank pages - I uploaded it to catalog/includes/extra configures

Instructions seem pretty vague on how to actually get the debugging file to work especially for novices.

So any way i can get my site working again.

P.S. Had enough of CuteFTP and it's mistakes and i am trying out FileZilla (so far it seems much faster )

Not quite sure how EasyPopulate can ruin three months of work. It only updates the database, so rolling back to a previous database backup would sort that out.

The debug add-on produces a log file which it pops in the cache folder on your site and into which it pops any error messages generated by PHP. These help you to pinpoint the precise location and nature of the problem that has caused the blank page.

I highly recommend FileZilla. The FTP client has been very stable and very reliable for a long time and I believe that you will find that the server side of it is what is implemented on most Linux servers, so there's a good pedigree there.

I accidentally deleted the previous database so wasn't able to roll back.

Ok so i completely re-installed everything from scratch and yet again the blank pages are showing up....I am literally pulling my hair out and turning into a Bruce Willis lookalike.

Can my server which is on InMotion Hosting.com be faulty or corrupt ?


I never had ANY problems whatsoever until i installed easy populate....I had installed many modules like image handler 2 and no problems whatsoever and had almost completed my shop...now it's gone ( ok i accidentally deleted the backup but still i can't help but be annoyed at easy populate as site was great until i added that )

So why am i uninstalling and re-installing....doing backups everytime i change a file ( got about 20 MySQL backups on my desk at the moment ) and yet i keep getting blank pages...just whats going on here ?

I note in the error log on my server it says Index.PHP error line 30 ( call to get terms url ) ....That file shouldn't even be in public_html folder it should be in zen cart or deleted.

Could this be my problems ?

Now thats weird as i went back to my very first backup...no files changed or touched by html code i just made some changes in the admin panel so no files touched by me and AGAIN i am getting a blank page.

So no matter how many times i re-install this keeps happening....it's almost 6am here...been up all night trying to fix this and i am so tired...going to sleep on this but first will email hosting provider to run a check on the server.

So i email my host....waiting for reply but get this...I deleted the zen cart so i can restart first thing later today and i find there appears to be a 0.1megabyte zencart file left behind which shouldn't be there...The control panel showed 2 MySQL packages installed but the MySQL area of my control panel showed just one....Hmmm perhaps one wasn't completely uninstalled and not showing up and has been causing these problems for me ?

I sure hope so because i need to grow all my hair back now.

You're throwing out a lot of information, but I have to say that much of it reads like it's coming from a sleep-deprived place. Staying up all night to fix these types of problems has a rather low success rate and going away for a bit of a kip and a re-set is often the best way forward.

It's difficult to see how Easy Populate could have caused your problems as it doesn't interfere at all with Zen Cart's core code and only makes the database changes that you ask it to. It would certainly be a surprise if it was the root cause of your blank pages. This is important because if you focus on that as the cause, I believe that there would be a good chance that you might never find the solution.

Making what I can of your other points. You only need to do a backup if you change data in the database or its structure. If you are doing MySQL backups each time you change your Zen Cart files, you may be simply backup up the same data over and over.

It's not clear from your posts whether the error log on your server is the one generated by your hosting package or the one generated by Zen Cart's debug mod. Either way, the full error message would be helpful as that will contain (for example) further information about paths that may explain the rest of your comment and indeed throw light on the problem overall.

Knowing that you went back to your first backup, doesn't help very much as there are too many variables possible in that backup. The main piece of information that would help is the specific and complete error messages written to the Zen cart log file at the point that you site fails. Sometimes sight of the site helps too, as blank pages are often not as blank as they seem.

You don't say what the name of the zencart file left behind is, unless it's a folder called zencart, in which case you must have named it that way. Folders are sometimes left behind during a global delete because the configure.php files are protected and don't delete easily.

On the issue of there appearing to be two MySQL databases when there should only be one, I've seen that happen in CPanel, which sometimes doesn't properly take account of deleted databases, so I'd believe your MySQl control panel over your more general web hosting control panel.

You are correct - Easy Populate wasn't the problem at all.

After some sleep and investigation i know what happened.

After deleting zen cart and starting from scratch ( i had to do this after accidentally deleting my original backup which was really stupid of me ) It seems when i uninstalled you get a page which says prepare zen cart for removal - Firefox went down on me at that stage ( regularly does and it seems to have a conflict with Microsoft Framework 3.0 installed on my computer ) Anyways the prepare for removal wasn't carried out properly and that left behind a 0.1 megabye file which was corrupting the database when i re-installed. Hence no matter what i did i was getting error blank pages on certain parts of the site.

I re-installed after deleting this 0.1 megabyte file and re-installed an old backup and everything now seems to work on all the pages where it was showing blank.

You are so right though about sleep...best to sleep on these things rather than spend all night working to fix it and getting nowhere.

Incidentally Filezilla doesn't allow editing of individual files the way CuteFTP does....Thats a bit annoying although i suppose i could use Dreamweaver MX to upload and edit as well.

It's interesting but i found out that changing banner box 2 in Includes/English.php to read Click For Live Help caused errors and made pages blank. I restored the file to read Have you seen... and everything returned to as it should EXCEPT the main page which now has an annoying Congratulations! You have successfully installed your Zen Cart™ E-Commerce Solution. I don't seem to be able to get rid of that but i'll figure it out.

I guess i need to edit banner box.php somewhere and not English.php.

Still you learn through your mistakes and by writing this i can pass on what i did to help others who may do the same.

I am not familiar with CuteFTP but I understand the issue you have with FileZilla and not being able to edit files quickly and easily via the FTP interface. I use a combination of the Cofee Cup FTP program - which used to be free - not sure if they are charging for the latest edition. Even if they are it is probably very affordable. I do rely heavily on FileZilla for bulk FTP jobs - as it had the very nice failure alerts, etc. I have yet to have any issues with large installs - which used to give me fits when I tried doing large jobs with Coffee Cup. So - I upload w FZ and tweak and edit with CC - that's my .02 on this - as I know your pain chasing one or two minor corrupted files and php errors...

Good Luck
