Special Price causes item to show twice

I noticed that when I make a new product and make it have a Specail Price it will always duplicate the items and sometimes make the item show three times in a row. It is not making new items, when you mouse over procut you will see they have the same product id number. Did I mess up the database name or what could I have done.

Sure - look at the second item - it is listed three times - then you will see items #9 & #10 are the same, just listed twice

Would my database name have anything to do with it? When I upgraded carts I may have removed the database prefix. now running 1.37

My current admin/includes/configure.php
define('DB_PREFIX', '');

unsure of old prefix name, anyway to check through my controlpanel what prefix names are on each product?
