This may seem like a very stupid question, but I have to ask.

Can I use this PPWPP integration (included ind the 1.3.8a) with a standard business account , and will it act like a regular gateway and payment processor would... And if so, does the customer even know that PayPal is involved?

Or must I have the website payments pro account set up at PayPal whereby I pay them $30.00 a month?

After considering a number of various gateways and payment processors, and the big pile of steamy... associated with making them work , I came full circle to where I know Dr. Byte is most comfortable.

So riddle me this, any one... This API approach requires that I pay them the $30- monthly fee. Or not? If yes, I should apply for an account before upgrading, eh?

paypal express is just a quick payment method to go to paypal to pay the bill,.
if you want it seamless then you will need to use the paypal pro

this does of course also require paypal express to run

Yes.

And if so, does the customer even know that PayPal is involved?

No, they'll enter their CC details directly on your site, and you'll process it in the background transparently. They have no idea it's being done via the PayPal servers.
Of course, you should be sure to have an SSL certificate on your site so you can collect and process the CC details securely.

Yes, you must pay the fee in order to use Website Payments Pro.

Well, you can start your upgrade anyway ... then the site is ready for when the application is completed.

Takes a bit of time, and they will do their usual checks and validations.

I have a question concerning PayPal Express Checkout as I suspect it will be no different as part of the Website Payments Pro package as it is as a standalone methodology.

I operate a business called XYZ, LLC, a limited liability company which is the owner of my PayPal business account since before I began with zencart.
What I found frustrating is this scenario...
From a website my customer clicks the PPEC button and is taken to PP. Because the API allows for custom pages, the appropriately designed page appears, however, the small textual link that is desgined to allow the customer to return to the website states "return to XYZ, LLC" when it should say return to the whatever the website's name is.

Is there a value in the API that would allow us to override the text for the return link? Ofcourse I could study the API specs, but I thought I would ask first.

I've not seen any way to accomplish that, despite many folks asking. PayPal uses your business name on your account for that link. (Or if you're using a Premier account, they use your PayPal primary email address instead.)

I actually ran across a post in the eBay developers forum 2008.

That link text is based on the value of business name in the PayPal profile.

If it is going to be possible to use the same PayPal account with multiple websites by using different predefined custom pages as indicated in the API block, the simplest change on their part would be to base the text of that link on the name of the custom page requested. Then simply name the page after your website and the problem is solved. I'm not confident that something like that will happen anytime soon.

Therefore, the business name needs to be something generic and not confusing to the customer. Any little detail, anything at all, that can be misconstrued by the customer will be.

I suggest going into your PayPal account profile and change the business name to "Merchant Website", and now that link reads:

"cancel and return to Merchant Website"

BTW, WPP approved my application in a matter of hours, might be because I told them I was using GCO, lol.
