Product titles in array, possible?

Is it possible to put the product titles for all products in a given category in an array?

Not just of the products on one page, but of all of them in that category?

Now that you mention it, I'd actually need it for categories with subcategories and categories with just products.

The reason is this:
Product titles in our shop have scales in them, like say, 1:72.
I want to have a sort option depending on the scales in a certain category, so if a category contains products (or subcategories with products) in scale 1:72, 1:144 and 1:32 I want to show the option to show only products in one of those scales (by placing a readymade search link at the top of the category).

This way people can easily only see products in the scale they use.

Once I'd get the titles into an array I'd then search it for mention of the scales in use and from there on build an array with the scales in use for that category.

I hope I've been able to explain what I mean clearly enough, thanks for the shown interest so far. :)

Maybe I get it wrong, but if the scale is an attribute of the product, you can use an additional field in the product, that will make it easier to sort?

That would be an option, but then I'd have to first manually insert the scales for a few thousand products :/
