    Default Google Sitemap Contribution

    i wanted to get some opinions of users who had this addon. How has it helped? Or has it hurt your site any?

    can anyone give a suggestion for how to increase page rank with this software?

    ALSO...i really really really need to know how to get my site to index like all of those other major companies. what i mean is when you do a search for them, it shows up with multiple menu links under their website.

    example:

    I find it to be a great mod - it does exactly what it says, and does it very well too.

    Hi

    You get indexed by having other sites linked to yours, also you have to register with google and other search engines. The more links to your site - the more times you will be looked at. BUT, if you never update your site, you will never be looked at - so update pages/site regularly.

    I don't know about the other part.

    Thanks,

    Phil

    Google decides on those bottom links by itself, if it feels like it, nothing you can do to make that happen I believe.

    By contacting sites that have link pages (like suppliers and such, not link-farms), and asking for a link :)

    so when you say google does it on its own? there has to be some way its influenced... because it seems that only big name companies have that feature.

    and yes, good idea about the suppliers. thats excellent info

    thanks Diavire

    Have you signed up as a webmaster with Google yet? Do so and you will learn how to get it to behave the way you want.

    Go to www.google.com and at the top right of your screen, click "sign in", then create an account...

    You will need to do this anyway if you want to use XML sitemaps.

    These have got to be by far the most confusing instructions i have ever read.

    Install:
    ========
    1. Unzip and upload all files to your store directory;
    2. Go to Admin->Tools->Install SQL Patches and install install.sql.
    Copying SQL code from install.sql file (using a text editor) and paste into form in your shops
    admin at Tools > Install SQL patches (copy & paste, don't upload!!!).
    3. Go to Admin->Configuration->Google Sitemap Configuration and setup all parameters
    4. Go to Admin->Tools>Google XML Sitemap (If error messages occur, change permissions on the XML files to 777);
    5. To have this update and automatically notify Google, you will need to set up a Cron
    job via your host's control panel.

    Can anyone direct me to a support thread to post questions about this Google sitemap contribution. i cant seem to find the "actual" thread to help newbs like me.

    or if theres anyone that can walk me through it. my aim chat name is mistachy
