Change your index.htm(l) to index.shtml. In the body of index.shtml include only this text:
<!--#include virtual='xxxx' -->
Where xxxx could be 'ezpage.html' or even to a relative directory 'mystore/ezpage.html'
Try that. That what I do for my site, but because my store is not in the root directory on my site.

You will probably get better results by putting your homepage HTML content in define_main_page.php, which is automatically the first landing page. You can do anything there that you can do in an ez-page, and more.
