I installed this and it broke my admin. Had to remove the "die" code from the extra_description_type_database_names.php file.

Now, how do I use it? I have 1000+ products and aren't about to redo them all...

    Hello,
I'm an author of this contribution, but do not have much time for developing it lately.
I wrote this plugin for some new shop and simply not foresee using it for existed products. I see no simple solution for that. Some of you probably using various product's types in yours shops so it's almost impossible to change their type without broking something.

I've got something for those of you, who are using only typical "product" type or want to change only this type to "product_extra_description" .

Please be careful with that and remember about some database backup before.

    1. Log in to the admin panel
    2. Go to Tools -> Install SQL Patches
    3. Paste this text into the form:

    Code:
    UPDATE products SET products.products_type =(SELECT type_id FROM product_types WHERE product_types.type_handler ='product_extra_description' LIMIT 0,1) WHERE products.products_type = (SELECT type_id FROM product_types WHERE product_types.type_handler ='product' LIMIT 0,1);
    4. Click "SEND"

I hope it will help for some of you at least.
I'm warning - I have test this SQL code only on my database. It should be OK and safe for any database but NO WARRANTY - BACKUP FIRST ;) .

This mod seems perfect for what I need, but when making the link in the product description it doesn't realize that I run my cart from a sub directory of the webroot. IE, my Zencart URL is http://www.mydomain.com/v2, when the mod generates the URL to download the pdf file it makes the link http://www.mydomain.com/download/pro...mydocument.pdf (which omits the v2 sub directory) Any one have any ideas on how I can correct this (short of moving the site to the web root)?

    Just wondering . . .

What's wrong with putting an <a href link to the file in the product description? That way someone could click to view in the browser, or right-click to download.

I must be missing something. I'm not really clear on the value of this mod.

I have hundreds of pages that will need to be loaded, and they needed to be loaded by lay folks that I am lucky to be able to get to use a web form. Attempting to teach them to use ftp (let alone even give them permissions to ftp) and to insert hyperlinks was more headache than I wanted. It is a useful mod, it depends on your needs however.

Actually, I meant adding the h ref to the description, then using Easy Populate to upload the new descriptions.

I'm not knocking the mod, I just don't understand the usefulness
