Specify product_id or pull up products by model instead?

Hello There,

I'm trying to figure out how I can specify the product id of an item, preferably with easy populate, resetting them to 1 won't help as I need them to be the same as my data providers information

The reason I need to specify the product id is because the link for each product is in this structure

site.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=7919

it would be great if I could get the products to pull up by model#
like this:

site.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_model=NIF4426FRU

but it doesn't work, does anyone know what I would need to change to pull items up by model number in the url?
