weird symbol showing up on homepage

Is Crimson Editor an acceptable editor?
Saving a file Save As.. PHP files did not solve the above error for me.

Thanks, I installed Notepad++ on win 64 - it works - symbols are gone. I had similar problems as I used Visual Studio.

I saved a file in Notebook and got the symbols.
But when I resave in Crimson, it does not get rid of the symbols.
Any ideas?

Merely saving the file isn't enough. If you're getting BOM characters, then you need to save the file with the right encoding, namely: UTF8-without-BOM ... however your editor allows you to do that.

For future readers, what I did in Crimson was use the Reload As... option, then saved again.
