You can put font properties in any of the rules, depending on exactly how you want to differentiate the font display. For the most basic all-categories control, use #categories ul a {}. Then for particular cases, you can add font properties to other rules.

When you posted the code from your other site's tpl_categories.php, I realized that your version of Cat Dressing was older (v2.6) and had different code at the end of the categories list. Pasting in the code from the current version only works because you do not have a subcategory as the last item in the list. If that does happen, it will break the categories box.

Your best bet is to upgrade to the latest version. You don't need to replace the stylesheet or defines files; just replace tpl_categories.php and categories_dressing_functions.php.
