Listing pages with prod attributes?

This post is probably in the wrong place (maybe should be in request for new features, for example) ...but i'm wondering if anyone has ever addressed, maybe via an add-on, the lack of function for products with attributes on listing pages (new, features, all) so that the attributes are selectable there as well.

If this could be achieved, then they too could be added via the "add selected items to cart" buttons. I'm assuming it's a programmatical nightmare to do so but it would be very worthwhile.

Is there any mod that allows this?

This has been requested numerous times over the years, and a couple of people have recently posted information (and the files) on how they did it. See drop down attributes at product listing page near add to cart button, especially posts 26 and 40.
