    Default Re: ozpost shipping module

    hi all,

i have just implemented this module for a client, did a search for my question but alas no results and we're going live tonight! i also read "cubing.txt" in the supplied source files but this didn't help either.
my client has several stock items that are quite large (1m x 30cm x 30cm), and as i understand it these are subject to "cubing rules" as they weigh about 1kg. thing is, if multiply out to get a weight based on dimensions i get the following:

    1 x 0.3 x 0.3 x 250 = 22.5

this result is over the 20kg limit normally applied (does the cubed limit apply? i assume it must as no prices are given over this figure).

my confusion stems from the fact that the module still seems to calculate the price based on 'actual' weight rather than cubed weight. am i missing something here?

ps: great module by the way rod, really well done!

    cheers

    Hi there,

I think Rod will have a better explanation for your problem but I have just done a quick test using some of the info that you provided the module still works fine. What I have done is the following:

Created a test product using the following info:

Product weight: 1000 (this is grams as this is what I am using)
    Product Height (cm): 30
    Product Length (cm): 100
    Product Width (cm:30

That way basically I am using 1kg as weight and 1*30*30 and everything worked fine and I got a quote. I did also a test with 2kg(2000) and I still a quote.

So you may want to try with different combinations. The only problem that I had was when I was using kilos instead of grams and since I changed to grams everything has been working just fine.

Sorry if that does not help :-)

thanks for the response. i worked out why it wasn't using cubed weight, the reason was becasue i was shipping locall, and shipping aus post to and from same city does not use cubed weights.

i have another question now. another item that i tried to buy 2 of, (1.8kg, 42cm x 40cm x 20cm) shipped to and from same city has neither a cubed weight, nor a real weight greater than aus posts minimums, but for some reason no quote is available through the shipping estimator (nor the checkout for that matter). any configuration of stacking or packing or weight or cubed weight should work, but to no avail.

    cheers

2 items of this size/weight will create a package of

    Weight 3.6kg
    Length 42cm
    Width 40cm
    Height 40cm (20cm x 2)

    This gives the parcel a girth of (40x2) + (40x2) = 160cm.

The maximum girth that Australia Post will accept is 140cm.

    Cheers

wow, i thought it was just the sum of the other two measurements, not actual diameter!

    Yes.

Furthermore the changes made to the admin files are no different than the changes made by the old AustPost-Improved module, so if you have that module wotking you won't need to re-change them.

The reason for changing these files is to allow the adding/editing of the product dimensional data.

I wish *my* girth was just a matter of my width + depth

Until I do so, you might want to consider using the older 'AustPost Improved' module (which honours the zen-cart 'maximum shipping weight' setting and provides a quote on multiple parcels.

ok, so i too (well not really me, more the client who owns the site!) am having fits over the fact there's no parcel splitting, and i'm curious what i should look out for if i revert back to the old aust post mod, assuming there is a) little to no support for it, and b) there were good reason for rewriting the new mod. is it really wise for me to revert back to this old mod simply to split parcels (in your opinion of course)?

my only other alternative presently seems to be to add another shipping option, however as my clients place of business is right next door to an australia post outlet, they're very reluctant to use anything else :)

one more question i guess; if "downgrading", should i uninstall the old module first? install notes on the old module say this is wise when upgrading, not sure about the reverse.
any other important tips? sorry if i'm asking a bit much now, very tight deadline : )

    cheers
