At the moment, your zencart IS NOT using the multisite module.

There is one interesting glitch that I cam across just now.

1. I have successfully set up couple of stores
2. created a user in one shop with email [email protected]
3. tried to create a user in second shop with same email address but got a message that a user already exists

It is understandable that you can't create two entries in DB with same email address. However, if there are two or more completely different shops with different products and a single user tries to buy from both stores he/she will be surprised that an account has already been created with specified email address. Is there a work around for this?

The whole purpose of this mod is to manage multiple stores from ONE backoffice. This is especially handy if you share products across more than one shop.

Then rather use two ZENCART installs.

This allows the very usefull function of cross-shop purchasing in one shoping cart. Great future if you run your multiple sites as departments and allow customers to buy from the various departments in a single shopping basket.

I see this mod as something to be used when you sell, lets say computers, and you want to offer themed departments for your various main brands whilst sharing your common products like cables, ink and other accessories.

I second that. I believe this module is best suitable for departments of some store. If used for different stores and you don't let your customers know it's actually the same company and the site already "knows" them, you're actually deceiving your customers.
I use this modules for different departments of my store and my customers are delighted to be able to use same account in different sites (as far as they can tell, i have two absolutely different sites) and manage their account in one place.

I've been reading the directions over and over to wrap my brain around this one. I have a few questions before I start working with this mod.

still valid, step-by-step, for the most recent updated version 0.4.2 of multi-sites mod?

I didn't find an sql file in the latest multisite mod download so I assume the sql command to run is the one found at step 2 at http://www.medea.co.uk/dev/

For testing and learning to set up this mod I've set up two subdomains. Site 1 subdomain has the zencart installed. I've got the mod installed. I've got products showing up on site 1.

I have the link for site 2 subdomain in the partners box. When I click on the link the site won't open. I get the page

"Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server."

What am I missing to get site 2 to open with template 2?

Any pointers appreciated.

Can you access subdomain2 by typing the address in the address bar or do you get this error only when clicking the link in your partner box?

I get the same thing when I use the link directly.

I created the subdomain2 only for this testing purpose so there's nothing in the file structure but an empty cgi-bin folder. would that have anything to do with the problem?
