Product Description does not show

Zen-Cart Version: 1.3.8 patched
Customization: Visual changes to classic contemporary green theme, such as addition/replacement of header pictures

Problem: When I give product description of more than a couple of lines, only one or two lines remain; the remaining is deleted from both frontend and backend. This problem persists even when I go to Configuration>Product Listing>Display Product Description and increase the maximum number of characters to display by huge proportions, such as 5000! What might be the problem? Please help!!!

Impossible to say...

As you have indicated you have made edits to the CLASSIC template, you cannot now revert to that template to see if the problem persists using the default template.

... that's why you should always create your own CUSTOM template... You can't now run a fundamental diagnostic exercise.

Sorry I was not clear regarding the template; I am using custom template that has been modified from classic template. I am also using custom overrides in my templates and English folders.

Can you suggest something now?

Well, switch back to CLASSIC template and see if the same problem occurs.

If it DOES NOT re-occur, the problem is in your custom template


If it DOES re-occur, the problem is EITHER in your database, or in files NOT associated with your custom template.

This helps you narrow down the possibilities.

Yes, I tried this just now; reverting back to CLASSIC template does increase the number of lines but still does not give the whole description. When I tried this, I had max char to display set to 1024; I icreased this to 2048 and got a few more lines, but still not complete description. It now cuts at the last line... Following is the description I am giving:

Is it possible that I am using the character count wrongly? I am using HTMLarea to format description.

After adding above description, I again changed the template to CUSTOM to see if results changed: The output of product description remained the same as in CLASSIC mode, inspite of CUSTOM template being wider. It seems the page is not expanding enough downwards; the Add to Cart box seems to be restricting the number of characters to be displayed - I may be wrong though.

Forgot to tell you...

In HTMLarea all the formatting I have done is I have added bullets to Features and Specs and made them bold. Am using 12pt Arial font.
