    Default Edit Orders Support

There doesn't seem to be any official support thread for this contribution... if so, let me know! OK... here it goes...

    Edit Orders
    Version: 1.5.3
    Last Updated: Aug 01 2008
    Zen Cart 1.3.8a

Issue: When editing an order to add a new product that has an optional attribute(s), the attribute is automatically chosen by the mod.

This causes the following issues (as I see it):

    1. I may not want the attribute to be added to the order
    2. If the attribute is priced, that attribute and price are added to the order total
    3. There is no way to remove the attribute price from a product (changing attribute price to 0 will not update the order total)
    4. A product that has multiple attributes including TEXT attribute type will have all those attributes added to the order when not filled in adding in the characters TEXT to each field (this adds clutter to the order).

Is there something I am missing or doing wrong with this contribution? It seems as if this contribution was not designed to fully support the complex nature of attributes.

Not sure if there is an "official" thread, but the most commonly used thread for edits orders is http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=57863

Many of your problems will be fixed if you update to v2. Attribute handling is much improved in v2. See my signature to d/l it.

    1. ZC has optional attributes? How'd you get it to do that? I don't see the option for that. If a product has attributes associated with it, as far as I know, you have to choose one before buying it. You can always choose an option value of none if you don't want that option, but none is still a value that must be chosen!

    2. Isn't this the desired outcome? With v2, I try to mirror as closely as possible what would happen to the price if you actually purchased a product and chose certain attributes. If this isn't what you want, adjust it and the product price accordingly after adding the product.

    3. Change attribute price AND product price to reflect the changed attribute price.

    4. Fixed in v2.

Damn!!! I looked around for quite awhile for a edit orders support thread and never stumbled upon that one! I've added that to my growing list. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

I wasn't aware there was an updated version as I didn't see it in the Addons and Contributed Modules page.

Maybe some mod would be kind enough to merge this rogue thread into the official thread?

To answer your questions... one example... Some of my products have one attribute as a checkbox... This is a Option Name with an Option Type of Checkbox

So, it essentially becomes optional as the customer has to click the checkbox to add the attribute to the product order.

I think that Edit Orders may have an issue with an Option Type of Checkbox and it automatically includes it when editing an order to add a product to the order.

I also think there is an issue with the Option Type of TEXT as Edit Orders includes all the Attribute Option Types set as TEXT when you don't enter any data and it also includes the characters TEXT.

I'll download and upgrade to Version 2 and see if the behavior is the same.

OK, I have installed v2.03 on fresh TEST copy of my site.

Still has issue with the automatic include of a checkbox option type as if it's was selected.

I think that the issue with TEXT option type appears to be resolved, but I haven't tested fully with all my TEXT attributes. As of right now, I'll call that fixed.

OK.. Here is how you can duplicate the checkbox option type issue:

    1. Create a Option Name with Option Type of Checkbox
    2. In the attributes controller, find a Test product you don't mind fooling with and add the Option Name with Option Type of Checkbox - assign a Price to the attribute (e.g., 3.00)
    3. Now, find a test order to edit
    4. Click Add Product
    5. Add the product with the Option Name you created earlier to the order you are editing.
    6. You will notice that the Option Name with Option Type of Checkbox will automatically be selected - there is no way to de-select it.
    7. Click the Add now button

Now, you will notice that the Attribute Option Name with Option Type of Checkbox will be listed on the order page and the Price (e.g., 3.00) will of been added to the the product Unit Price.

So, now to look for workarounds to this quirk:

    1. I can find no way to delete this attribute that I didn't select from the order
    2. If I clear out the value of the attribute, it won't update the Unit Price or Order Total (maybe the mod doesn't update like this).
    3. If I go into the Advanced Attributes Editor and manually set the Option Price Change to 0 AND manually update the Unit Price to remove the price of the attribute, I can get the order to update with correct values. This appears to be a workaround to reflect the actual cost of order, but it still shows that they ordered the product with the attribute which isn't accurate.

I can't find anyway to prevent Edit Orders from selecting the attribute in the first place and no way to delete the unwanted attribute from the order.

Ahh yes, I do remember someone else complained that checkboxes don't work right as they are optional awhile back. Sorry, I didn't realize that any attribute types were optional when I wrote the upgrade for v2 or I would have fixed it. Unfortunately, I have no plans to fix this bug at this time. If it is of the utmost importance to you, I'd suggest that you find or hire someone to fix this bug.

If I clear out the value of the attribute, it won't update the Unit Price or Order Total (maybe the mod doesn't update like this)
It doesn't. I assumed that if you wanted to update the price of the item when changing the price of the attribute that you would just do so. So, if the attribute cost $10 and you change it to $5, then you need to subtract $5 from the price when changing the attribute price.

I wouldn't consider this a workaround. That's how I designed it to work. See my explanation above for why. And unfortunately, this mod does not support the removing of attributes.

How would I get this module to work when a customer had used a Gift Certificate on the order they want to add a product to and wants to subtract the amount from the GC?

    Thanks,
    Kat

When checking a test order, the gift certificate amount remains the same within the account. Does not adjust to the added product to order.

    Thanks

Using 2.03. Noticed that when an item has more than one attribute and the "use specials/sale price" checkbox is checked that the sales price is added twice. So if the sale price is $5 then the price that will be added to the total is $10. If there is a price difference between attributes then that is added, so if attribute combination 1 is $5 and attribute combination 2 is $6 then the price added is $11.

Has a fix been posted for this?

Thanks, Steve, for making the great functionality changes to this mod, it is so much nicer now!!!
