Price manager discount not applied to first product attribute

Price manager discount is not applied to the first available product attribute but works fine for all the rest!

So a shopper selects the first (default) option of the first attribute, and then chooses one from the second attribute list (or not -as this second one is optional) and adds 10 of them to cart - no discount shows up.

If shopper selects any attribute combo EXCEPT the first one on the first list of options, then the 20% discount is applied just fine!

Any thoughts how to fix or workaround???

Product has two Attributes: Size & Content
First attribute, "Size" is required.
Second Attribute, "Content" is optional.

(Product Discount Manager): Discount Qty Applies to
Mixed Attributes: No
Discount Type: Percentage
Discount Priced from: Discount

Discount 1: ( 1: 0.00) example: $2.95 x 1 = $2.95
Discount 2: (10:20.00) example: $2.36 x 10 = $23.60

I found it! problem solved.

One of the attributes (in this case, it was the first one in the list) for the problem product simply had its "Apply Discounts Used by Product Special/Sale" flag set to "No".

Since this was the only attribute set that way, it explains why it was not receiving the discount when the other attributes were!

I'd like to add Olive Garden gift Card as a carrot. I want it to appear as an option value. BUT, I want to be able to have a periodic sale on the gift Card so that it free with the item purchased. Is there a way to put an option on sale without the product being on sale as well?

I know that there is a mod for the dangling carrot but the forum sounds like its either not working well or there is too much adjusting to core files.

Not that I can think of for Gift Certificates as they are setup to never allow Discounts of any kind ...

A work around would be to setup a regular Product "called" a Gift Certificate that does NOT use the products_model of GIFT and then manually send the Gift Certificate to a customer who buys one for the actually amount you want it to be ...

Customers would then need to Redeem the Gift Certificate redemption code for it to be applied to their GV balance ...

I think I will just add a category called Gift Cards. Then I will be able to put them on sale for free. The only problem with this method is if they dont notice the Gift card category.

By the way, this strategy appears to be working. Business is up.
