Default Would it be easier to do a fresh install and edit the configure files?

I am still using 1.3.8 and would like to upgrade to 1.3.9, but my host would charge about $150 to do it for me and simply clicking the upgrade link in Fantastico doesn't work.

My question is, if I do a fresh install of 1.3.9x using Fantastico would it work with just going in and editing the configure files to point to my old database? I did a test and it seems to work, however I have to go in and reinstall all my addons.

Has anyone else tried this method?

DON'T ever use fantastico or any auto installer....

Hard not to agree with the Master - Kobra. He's right on.

I just wanted to add that $150 does seem quite steep. I did three upgrades from 1.3.8 to 1.3.9f yesterday for my customers. They all went smoothly. You should not have any troubles with doing it yourself following those links that Kobra posted.

It's sad that fantastico doesn't work reliably. But, in the case of ZC, one doesn't need it. ZC is 'fantastico' in it's own right. ;)
