Numinix Search: An Enhanced Search Alternative for ZC

The Numinix Search module uses the Sphider spidering agent to index a selected website and displays the indexed pages as search results within a Zen Cart website.

The module contains pre-modified versions of the Search Header and Search sideboxes.

It can index all of the pages in a site, or multiple sites. Categories can be used for organizing sites and allowing visitors to search specific areas of the indexed sites.

This module is free and open-source.

Are there are any known bugs so far with this mod? I'm running zc version 1.3.8 with the zencart_zen template

Since I'm NOT a programmer or php/sql savvy person I pretty much need mods that don't require a lot of custom modifications to be implemented.

Yes, I have it reindexing all of the websites in the numinix.com domain through a nightly cron job. Alternate search terms can be added by simply adding additional keywords to your products' meta tags.

There haven't been any bug reports yet, but some have found the installation confusing. The documentation will be improved as we perform more installations.

Will I need to do any php/sql modifications to install this mod? I am NOT very css/php/sql savvy and can basically 'copy/paste' or follow very explicit instructions, but just something generic like 'add a php file to enable/disable the action' or 'run the cron function' would leave me :frusty:

Do you think I'd be able to successfully install and use this mod as is?

Depending on your website's template, you may have to style the template page to match your website. Notice how on the Numinix site it is styled to match all other pages.

I would give this module an intermediate installation rating as there are a lot of steps involved in the installation. We do offer installs for a fee and gaurantee to get it working with your site.

This service does not include any programming customizations, but we will style it to match your template.

This is exactly the mod I was looking for, thanks.

I'm going through the install but have run into an early problem. Step 5 says 'navigate to /search/install.php' but there is no such file. There is a /search/admin/install.php

When I run that file, I get:

Sphider installation script.
Error: Table 'zen_links' already exists
Error: Table 'zen_categories' already exists
Creating tables failed. Consult the above error messages.

I went to the next step and it seems it did install. However, I'm getting another error. I get this on the search results page and also when trying to add a category in the admin.

Unknown column 'parent_num' in 'where clause'

I think I just figured it out. I changed the database prefix in search/settings/database.php. I thought it should match what I already had. I changed it back and everything seems to be working now.

BTW, are there any functional differences between 1.00 and 1.01a?

Does anyone know how to exclude popup images from being included in the search results?

If you search our site for 'nun' (https://www.customcreationsunltd.com), result 2 - 6 are image pop-ups.

Put the no_sphider tag around those images in your template files.

Thanks Numinix. I put the tag around the complete image block in tpl_product_info_display.php, re-indexed the site but the pop-ups are still showing in the results. The url to the image is .../shop/index.php The product does not appear on the home page so I'm confused as to where the spider is picking up the link to the pop-up image. How can I find out?

I was able to find a solution to the pop-up image problem above but have come across another issue.

The search results seem to have a problem with apostrophes. I get zero search results from women's watch but women's watch is listed as a search suggestion (https://www.customcreationsunlimited.com). women watch works but that's not what people seach for. I didn't see any setting that relates to apostrophes.

How did you fix the pop-up issue? I'm having the same issue and can get the main part to not be indexed, but it still gets caught by the title tags....
