Favicon Help

I have created my Favicon. Where do I put the code for the main page as well as for the shopping cart?

I have looked in the
store/includes/templates/my-template/common/html_header.php
I see this text listed in this file but do not know what to do to get the page to see my favicon. Thanks.

<?php if (defined('FAVICON')) { ?> <link rel="icon" href="<?php echo FAVICON; ?>" type="image/x-icon" /> <link rel="shortcut icon" href="<?php echo FAVICON; ?>" type="image/x-icon" /> <?php } //endif FAVICON ?>

Thank you, Sincerely, MagicMan

Re: Favicon Help

Thank you. I got it to work. All I had to do was to create the image and place it in the root folder. I needed to clear my cache and refresh the page for it to show.

Re: Favicon Help

I am having the exact same problem. I have created a favicon.ico and can't figure out where to put it. I know it says in the root directory but I have tried that and it is not working. I can not find any . html files.

Any suggestions?

Right now I have it directly after my www. website.net. It is a favicon.ico directly under this root and it is the only thing there. If I double click on the site name then I get 2 folders - logs and web, then under web I get cgi-ben and content folders. If I double click on content then I get a lot of subfolders and other files.

Please help - I have been working on this all day!

Re: Favicon Help

I placed it in the public-html folder. This is the folder where all of your web content goes.

It is the directory that you index page for the home page goes.

IE does not display the favicon.ico. Firefox does.

Make sure the file is only 16 x 16 px size.

Thank you, Sincerely, MagicMan

Re: Favicon Help

I created a favicon.ico but it isn't showing up. I put it into my /web/ directory. Not sure why it isn't there. I have done everything that was asked in the tutorial and this post. I don't have a folder labeled "public-htm"l folder. Should I?

Re: Favicon Help

Here is the error message I find in my hosting site error log------

monumentsplus.com/web/favicon.ico failed for 66.175.161.127, reason: no file matching URI: /favicon.ico from -

it appears to be looking in the /web/ file for it. I put it there.....but no dice yet.

Re: Favicon Help

what browser are you using? put the favicon in your web server root and open up firefox and look at the URL and see if the favicon is there, sometimes it does not show in IE.

Re: Favicon Help

I have found that sometimes with IE7 it takes a while to show up. FireFox, chrome or Safari should pick it up right away.

I managed to get the Favicon todisplay in IE7 straight away, but it won't show in Firefox.

Anyway got any ideas... I've cleared cache and sessions.

Thanks

Re: Favicon Help

Remember that MS is quite specific about the acceptable format of the contents if the favicon.ico file.
If the image you've created doesn't exactly suit their specs, then IE won't show it.

Also, IE doesn't display a favicon as soon as it knows there is one. It must first cache it ... and to do that requires bookmarking the site. After that the favicon will show in IE whenever you visit the page ... until you empty your browser cache at least. Then you must bookmark it again.
Firefox does it smarter ... and caches it and immediately shows it as soon as it knows there's an image to display.

If it's just a bookmarking thing, you can fix it by bookmarking the site.

One way to attempt to test what's going on is to directly surf to your favicon file with your browser. Type in the URL to your favicon.ico file: http://YOUR_DOMAIN.COM/favicon.ico
See what happens. it should show you an almost-blank page with your favicon in the top left corner ... very tiny.

Re: Favicon Help

I just get a blank image with an X in Explorer. When I search for the image URL in Firefox, it shows up.

Explorer and Microsoft sucks. I am so done with the PC. My next computer will be a Mac. I know this has nothing to do with the Favicon. It is just another example of Microsoft screwing with everyone with incompatible software and programs.

Thank you, Sincerely, MagicMan

Re: Favicon Help

I used photoshop saved as web gif file and then renamed it to favicon.ico. Should I not have done that? What is the best way to create the file?

Thank you, Sincerely, MagicMan
