Switching to Camelot Hosting

Hello. I don't know if this is the right area to post this in. I purchased godaddy hosting, SSl certificate and have a domain. I have set up my database and have a functionally running shop with over 1000 customers. I have now realized reading this forum that godaddy is not the best host for me - my website is tremendously slow.

I have purchased Camelot hosting and would like to know if there is a way for me to successfully transfer the shop without loosing the database and reinstalling ZenCart anew.

Thank you for any suggestions or a point in the right direction to ask this.

Re: Switching to Camelot Hosting

I was thinking about moving my site to Camelot hosting but a friend of mine has been with them for about 8 months and he recommended me not to, to be fair, he said the server is fast but the support is terrible and they always blame things on the site owner.

He said that he has a problem during the site transfer which they did not set the correct language when they moved the DB, the email was not working since the correct port was not given and during the move numerous files including code and images were missing.

If you have not signed up save your money.

That sounds a little harsh! From what I've heard and read on the forum - these guys are topnotch!

I have seen some of the emails that was exchanged between Tony and my friend and i remember the frustration he was going through.

Just because someone has his name on the recommended hosting list that does not make them one of the best hosting out there.

I just called my friend and asked for an update "I do not want be harsh", he told me that his Google froogle feed generator has not worked since he transferred his site over to Camelot (He has been using a file that was generated before he moved his site and he has to change the expiration date by search/replace evey month).

I don't believe you can hang this on the host!
I've had the same issue with google feed, since google made some changes, and my site is NOT at Camelot.

Tina, I think you misunderstood me, i am talking about the add on that create the feed file in the admin (that is not working), if google accept it or not that is a different story.

Re: Switching to Camelot Hosting

Since I have received no reply I can come to 2 conclusions

1 your not comfortable dealing with the issue, in which case you need to have your friend post here or PM me or better yet use our ticket system

or

2 Well just not worth saying

but to ask a few more popinted questions

He said that he has a problem during the site transfer which they did not set the correct language when they moved the DB, the email was not working since the correct port was not given and during the move numerous files including code and images were missing.

What Language were we supposed to set ( we picked up the files and moved them as is )

Email ports Honestly never saw the need to say that email is on
incoming 110 outgoing 25 ( exception 26 ) and so forth, If thats an issue we will actually make changes to the welcome email and fix that issue

as to files missing, once again we move all the files as is....
the only time files get left behind is if they are corrupt.

Im sorry that I cant go into more detail but all I can do is offer General information to your "Friend" until they contact us through our ticket system

Re: Switching to Camelot Hosting

In my experience, Camelot has great customer service. They stay on top of everything going on. Their ticket system is the best I've seen with a host. Longest response time I have ever gotten from them during normal business hours is maybe, and I mean maybe, an hour. They are A+ in my book and I wouldn't host anywhere else with my zencart.

On a scale from 1 to 10, 9.99 ! Hey no one is perfect and if you don't expect perfection, you have room to be happy. And I'm happy with Camelot, highly recommended!

I'm very puzzled by TamyA's comments. I've moved dozens of Zen Carts about. Indeed every client project we deliver typically has two moves (local test server to public test server and then into final location) and I've never had to change the language settings along the way. Nor have I experienced problems with Camelot's email settings (indeed we've sometimes moved sites up there to get around email problems elsewhere).

I guess we have to note that TamyA isn't speaking from personal experience and remember why heresay is inadmissible in a law court.

I agree too. Camelot has never taken more than 30 minutes to respond to a question; even late at night. Their customer service is excellent, and they have the most secure shared hosting I've come across.

Re: Switching to Camelot Hosting

A few months ago I was looking for a different host for my website as hostmonster wasn't good enough. I tried to use the certified hosters but it seems none of them answer their phones.

I know this is an old thread but if I am a new customer and have some concerns I would like to get a hold of someone to talk about it especially if I am moving a site with 100K products. I managed to chat with one of the sales people for Camelot like 6 months ago but when I was ready to move I couldn't get a hold of anyone. I even left voicemails and no one would answer my calls.

I can't really say anything about their server but my first impression wasn't good.

Re: Switching to Camelot Hosting

HM and its sister company BH are both pretty good, but 100K products will get you shutdown for violation of their TOS. You are allowed only 50,000 files max and your product images alone will exceed that.
