Drop Down Menus in Flexible Product Listing

I love the flexible_product_listing mod. What i wanted to do is have the attributes listed with the price and 'buy now' button on the product listing page.

The advantage is that a customer can complete the purchase without having to go to the product_info page. Just one less click in the process. There is an extra 'more info' button in the product description to make sure people know that more information is available.

At the moment (June 7, 2009 ) you can have a look at what I have got at: http://www.starlessriver.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1. But the site is still in development so it may well change. Certainly some of the layout needs attention at the moment.

It requires that flexible product listing is installed first and much of the code is based on Options on Product Listing v2.0. So, a big thanks to all the people who have worked hard on those mods. Just doing this little hack taught me how much work goes in. Thanks guys.

It has to be said that this is very much work in progress at the moment so it will change. Anyone who wants to try it please go ahead, but please, please, make sure you are backed up. The files are all overrides so no huge damage can be done. Also, a lot of the work happens in product_listing.php so if you have other mods that have already changed that, other than flexible_product_listing, proceed with care.

It works for the admin settings I have chosen and my whims but I am sure there are lots of circumstances and other admin settings that may break it. Let me know and I will try to fix it.

There is a read-me in the zip file that will guide you though installation.

It has been pretty stable on the store that it was designed for but what I really need is some people to use it and break it in unexpected ways:smile:

OKay, i know i can download and test install it - but to save some time, does this mod handle products that are priced by attributes?

I can't see any reason why it wouldn't. The files that are altered should not effect the way prices are calculated for attribute pricing. Let me know though, as I have not tried that either....

I just installed and styled flexible_product_listing today and it'll be great to have this mod working in unison! I probably will not get to it tonight but I'll install and test it in the next day or so. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi, great mod, however i'm having slight problem. I'm using radio buttons instead of drop down. It displays ok except it wont display the buy now button properly, it just says 'BUTTON_BUY_NOW_ATTRIBUTES_ALT' and also when you click the link where the button should be it won't take you to the cart, it just reloads the page. Any help would be great as i'd like to keep this mod on the site.

OK. It's great that you used this and it looks like you are 95% of the way there. As I said this is more of a 'hack' than a full fledged mod. Which just means that it was built for a particular shop and wasn't generealised. But I thought it might be helpful to others so posted it.

I don't know the answer off the top of my head and will look at the code today and find it for you. It looks like there is an issue in the language file which should be a really easy fix.

have you completed the third step of the installation instructions:

3. Finally you need to define a new button. This involves editing the file button_names.php which you will find in includes / languages / english / YOUR TEMPLATE/ . Add the two lines:

define('BUTTON_IMAGE_BUY_NOW_ATTRIBUTES', 'button_buy_now.gif');
define('BUTTON_BUY_NOW_ATTRIBUTES_ALT', 'BUY NOW');

Ok, i had'nt done step 3, sorry about that, but now i have. It still does not work but it has changed the button picture to say something else so we might be in the right area.

OK. I think this has to do with the fact that I was using css buttons on that site. (This is a setting in admin)

Are you sure that you have created the button as the instructions? It is finding one of the definitions but not the other.

OK, there seems to be a typo of mine in there. Oops.

The quickest way for you to solve this on your site (I need to re-upload the product_listing file in general) is for you to change the first define to:

define('BUTTON_IMAGE_BUY_NOW_ATRIBUTES', 'button_buy_now.gif');

Attributes spelled with only one 'T' = ATRIBUTES

Ok, things are on the up, :D it now displays the button,however when you make a selection and click the button it reloads the page and does not take you to checkout, it only happens on products with radio buttons and works just fine on product without radio buttons.
