Facebook, Myspace and Twitter?

Hi all,

Supposing I were to create a 'profile page' for my business on Twitter, Myspace and Facebook and put links to my site on...

The content would be related, they have superb page ranks etc - would it be worth a try or do they categorize social networking sites in any way?

Hi Steve.
I've added biz profiles to twitter, linkedin, facebook and myspace. I haven't promoted them much but I'm going to start doing more promotions this next month specifically geared at social networking sites.

The links are spidered and categorized by search engines and I'm sure they affect page rank but I'm not sure how much exactly.

I simply do as much as I can to get my links out there as much as possible. I've never actually did a link exchange campaign. I've actually been the target of link exchange emails from countless organizations. It really does help to do as much as you can to get your links out there.

The thing about social networking is if you can get enough people promoting your profile and your links then all the better. As with anything I look at it this way - volume and quality.

Here's a link to something I found in the Add Ons section...
http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=984
Looks like this won't direct them to your specific profile but it will add links to help people promote your site on their social networking profiles.
I'm going to add this and I'm going to add links to my specific profiles just to be sure all my bases are covered.
Once I get this all accomplished I'll come back here and update this post.

good luck. hope it helps.

Re: Facebook, Myspace and Twitter?

Both Facebook and Twitter offer scripts and html to add to your site in order to promote your twitter and facebook accounts. Myspace also offers logos and graphics to promote their service.

On Facebook if you have a personal account you have the option of adding a "page" for your business - usually on your home page it will say like "create a page for my business" or something like that. On pages you can add photos and videos and you can promote the page to people and they can choose to become a "fan" of that page. So instead of gaining friends you gain fans for your business page. That page can then be used to purchase ad space on Facebook. Basically it's like a PPC account - pay per click. It suggests an amount for you. This is optional. You can have the page up and never advertise with facebook if you choose.

If you have your twitter account you can link it to your facebook account by adding the application to your account and you can also choose to allow Twitter to update your status on facebook. This is handy so you don't have to update both all the time.

Myspace allows you to open a personal account and call it whatever you like. So you can essentially fully promote your business on Myspace with just about everything that's available on an average web page. You can even style your myspace page to look like your web page. This kind of styling is not available on Facebook. All facebook pages look the same essentially and cannot be modified like they can on myspace.

anyways that's the real quick rundown of what you can do on social networking. there's a lot more available but that's the quick guide and I think it helps to promote your business as much as possible.

Search engine ranking is basically a way to figure out how important and influential your page is on the internet. The more links to your page it sees the better. the higher quality links increase that exposure and ranking.

Java scripted, nofollowed and redirected links to not supply ANY PageRank.

Re: Facebook, Myspace and Twitter?

MySpace - I wouldn't bother with anymore.

As far as Facebook and Twitter goes - you will only make inroads with potential clients/customers if you are (strategically) active. Both those sites are best used for relationship marketing.

It simply isn't enough to post some links and call it a day...

Re: Facebook, Myspace and Twitter?

Maybe someone can help me here?

I have looked through a dozen threads trying to find out where to paste my Facebook Advertising conversion script.

The directions said to paste the script between the <head> and </head> of the checkout success html page.

After reading wiki and several other help files, I decided the code should be placed in the following file.

includes/modules/my_files/header_php.php (original file pulled from includes/modules/pages/checkout_success/).

So I put my facebook script code at line 115 in the header_php.php file:

// include template specific file name defines
$define_page = zen_get_file_directory(DIR_WS_LANGUAGES . $_SESSION['language'] . '/html_includes/', FILENAME_DEFINE_CHECKOUT_SUCCESS, 'false');

} else {
echo '<html><head>';

LINE 115

// MIKE ADDED THIS FOR FACEBOOK ADVERTISING

<script type="text/javascript"> var fb_param = {}; fb_param.pixel_id = 'MY UNIQUE PIXEL CODE'; fb_param.value = '0.00'; (function(){ var fpw = document.createElement('script'); fpw.async = true; fpw.src = '//connect.facebook.net/en_US/fp.js'; var ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; ref.parentNode.insertBefore(fpw, ref); })(); </script>

<noscript><img height="1" width="1" alt="" style="display:none" src="https://www.facebook.com/offsite_event.php?id=MY UNIQUE CODE&value=0" /></noscript>

// END MIKE ADDED THIS FACEBOOK ADVERTISING

echo '<script type="text/javascript">

I checked the Facebook Ads admin page after modifying the file to make sure the connection to the page was established...well, it wasn't. So, I pasted my script into the original file location under the pages folder...still didn't work. Next, I processed an order with my website to see what effect that would have...no joy. So I restored the pages folder files back to the original configuration and ran another test order to see if the my_files/header_php.php file would work...still no joy.

:please:I'm I working in the right checkout_success file (header_php.php) to make this work?

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Facebook, Myspace and Twitter?

Found the answer...no file mods needed. I just pasted the script at the bottom of the checkout success page in the define pages editor. That activated the tracking code.
