Add to cart button doesn't add - from any page

This is a problem that began yesterday, right after my site went live -- perfect. It is my opinion that my hosting company screwed something up when they added the shared SSL cert, or changed settings to allow forwarding of e-mails and domains.

This problem along with an inability to log into the shopping cart occurred at that time. They have since fixed the login problem.

It's is consistent -- it happens on every page, all the time. Categories pages, shopping cart pages.....
When I type a number into the "add" box and either hit enter, or "add selected items to cart" the number reverts back to whatever was in the box to start with. In most cases it's a "0".
My shopping cart happens to have "6" of one item in it right now, and if I try to update that number -- it goes back 6.

The site is https://www.mark-a-hydrant.com/store

Help -- Please!

Re: Add to cart button doesn't add - from any page

I can create an account and stay logged in but the cart is still broken either logged in or not ...

I did notice you have a backup of your stylesheet loading:
stylesheet_bak.css

You should delete that or rename such as:
2009_1002_stylesheet_bak.css_old

if you need to keep it on your server so it does not auto load but you can still identify it ...

Re: Add to cart button doesn't add - from any page

As a quick test, any change if you switch to Classic Template?

Any change if you turn off the Enable SSL in the:
/includes/configure.php

by changing it from true to false, just to see if you can now add to the cart with the SSL out of the picture?

Re: Add to cart button doesn't add - from any page

Ajeh,

Thanks for the quick reply.
I am unable to edit the configure.php file -- the host needs to gove me permission to do so. They temporarily gave me permission to do so when the SSL was installed. I can go back to them and ask them to do that and see if it helps.

I took out the css.bak file - thanks.

I'm concerned about switching templates becasue I have several add ons installed (image handler 2, Purchase order & qty discounts) will it affect those?

Thanks,
Josh

Re: Add to cart button doesn't add - from any page

Changing to the Classic Template for a minute should not break things ... if it does, switching back to your normal template will correct that ...

The idea is to try to rule out a Template issue causing this ...

You should see if you can access changes to your permissions with your site's Control Panel ... if not, you should consider a hosting provider that gives your control of your own domain ...

Re: Add to cart button doesn't add - from any page

Ajeh,

I accessed my permissions through the Cpanel and changed SSL to "false" it didn't fix the problem.

I will try switching templates.

My hosting company has recommended that I re-install zen cart. My concerns are losing my add-ons and db. I don't want to go back to square one.

One way to rule out addons etc is to install a 2nd copy of Zen Cart ... in a separate folder and a separate database, and see whether the same problem persists there.
THEN start adding your addons to it, and testing.

Then if it works fine there, do a complete file-by-file compare between your broken site and your non-broken site to see what's causing the problem.

Re: Add to cart button doesn't add - from any page

DrByte - the whole site worked -- with all the add-ons. Something has changed since I pointed the domains to my new host, added the shared SSL and forwarded the e-mail addresses. I ran dozens of test transactions and tried every link in the store - repeatedly. It was a beautiful thing!
I'm a newbie and it was a major effort, I'd prefer not to have to repeat.
I appreciate any thought you have that might avoid a complete redo.
Is there anything with the permissions that could prevent the "add" field from accessing the shopping cart?
Thanks.

Re: Add to cart button doesn't add - from any page

The zen cart is a new build, the old shopping cart was custom code from my previous host - that I was not entitled to.
Has any one else experienced this problem, that you can recall? Any thoughts on where to dig?

Re: Add to cart button doesn't add - from any page

You're contradicting yourself.
First you said the whole site worked, but on a different host. Then you moved it to another host, and it didn't work.
Now you're saying that you didn't move it.

If you install a NEW copy, with a NEW database, in a NEW folder, what happens? Do you still have the problem?

There's not enough information yet to determine whether your problems are related to your files/addons, or .htaccess changes, or your hosting configuration, or PHP session problems, etc. And your story is more and more confusing all the time.

Re: Add to cart button doesn't add - from any page

I'm sorry you are confused by my story. Let me see if I can clarify.
I built the entire site, with zen cart and all of my add-ons, on my current host's servers. Because the domains were not yet pointing to the current servers, I added one of my domain names as a local host on my computer to allow me to do the development of the zen cart. On September 30th, prior to pointing both domains to the new named servers, the website worked perfectly. Dozens of test transactions were run, all links checked -- no problems. Free_template_3, Bluepay, image handler 2, Purchase orders, USPS and UPS were all working as intended.
Then, I pointed the domains to the named servers of my new hosting company. I contacted them to ask them to assist me with an SSL certificate (they had previously told me I didn't need to buy one -- an a dedicated IP -- their shared SSL certificate would be fine, as long as I didn't mind my https: listing a name other than my domain) I told them that was fine and they installed the shared SSL. I needed to have all e-mails forward to a single e-mail, and make sure that no matter how someone typed my company name, they would reach https://www.mark-a-hydrant.com. The host assisted with these changes and needed to make some adjustments along the way, because not everything worked when I tried to make the changes through my Cpanel.
My problems occurred after these changes took place. I was unable to login to the store, to test my "Purchase" page. I let them know and they "fixed" the login. I wasn't until then that I realized I could not add product.
I hope this helps narrow the possibilities and appreciate your assistance in trying to diagnose where problems may have occurred.

Re: Add to cart button doesn't add - from any page

For the e-mail domain forwarder not working, this is what they did:

I've added the necessary code to your public_html/.htaccess file to force the url to use www when it is not used for mark-a-hydrant.com. The markahydrant.com domain is redirected to mark-a-hydrant.com, which regardless of how they type it in initially will forward them to https://www.mark-a-hydrant.com.

In regard to the forwarders, you will need to setup a forwarder for each individual email account to forward to [email protected]. To make it easier, you can forward all email from @markahydrant.com accounts to @mark-a-hydrant.com accounts, which you would then already have individual forwards to [email protected] setup. I tested the "domain forwarder" feature in your cPanel, and while it says its working, it doesn't appear to be saving the forwarder. I am passing that particular issue to our Systems Team, and someone will be getting back to you shortly in regard. Thank you for your patience.

AND

I have repaired what appears to be a malformed valiases entry - please let us know if you can now add forwarders for your account.

**In response to not adding product they said this:
**
Per our phone conversation. I wasn't able to find out why your site cannot add products to your cart. I do see this in your error log:

[21-Sep-2009 11:00:37] PHP Warning: PHP Startup: mm_create(0, /session_mm_cgi993) failed, err mm:core: failed to open semaphore file (Permission denied) in Unknown on$

Which I was unable to find out why or where. I'm moving this ticket to Tier2 to look at for you.

This was the first guy who fixed the login:

Thank you for contacting support. We have been able to clear this error by making an exception to the www redirect that was created earlier. I have verified that the cart login and transactions will function without security errors.

AND... the second guy who fixed the login.

Thanks,
Josh

Re: Add to cart button doesn't add - from any page

OOPs - forgot the second guys response.

Reviewing this issue I have been unable to find what is causing your products to not be added to the cart. It would not be related to the previous error stated by Tim, however I have since resolved that error and it should not write to your error_log anymore. As this issue does not seem to be server related I would recommend upgrading or re-installing your Zen Cart installation and then adjusting the configuration file to connect to the existing database. Please note that you will also want to keep a backup of your current installation to migrate any templates you have set up.

Re: Add to cart button doesn't add - from any page

What's the value of HTTP_SERVER and HTTPS_SERVER in your /includes/configure.php file?
How does that compare with the URL in your browser when surfing on your site?

I suspect what's happening is your apache redirects (NOT related to email at all) may be redirecting to an address that doesn't match what you've told Zen Cart to use, and that may be causing session/cookie problems. Similarly if people move back and forth between ssl and non-ssl addresses and hit an apache redirect in the middle of that, then the session/cookie data could get mixed up and the session lost.
And in order to add-to-cart, a PHP session must be started and maintained. Ironically, so does login and checkout and my-account activities.

Further, it sounds like at least one of the problems your server guys was looking at was directly related to a problem with how the server handles sessions.

Re: Add to cart button doesn't add - from any page

DrByte,
I am truly impressed by your dedication to be answering me @ 10pm on a Friday night -- thanks.

Here's the two lines from /includes/configure.php:
define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://mark-a-hydrant.com');
define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://secure66.inmotionhosting.com/~markah5');

This is the URL when I click "login" https://secure66.inmotionhosting.com/~markah5/store/index.php?main_page=login
Here's the URL while on my site (index page) : http://www.mark-a-hydrant.com/store/index.php
I'm not sure what that all means.
Is it reasonable for me to be assuming that the changes made by the hosting co. have something to do with my issue?

Thanks,
Josh

Re: Add to cart button doesn't add - from any page

That's likely your problem.
Your store is configured to use "mark-a-hydrant.com", but your .htaccess rewrites/redirects are re-translating every click to "www.mark-a-hydrant.com", and in so doing, all the store transaction data is being lost.

I suggest editing your /includes/configure.php file to set your HTTP_SERVER to 'http://**www.**mark-a-hydrant.com'

Re: Add to cart button doesn't add - from any page

That is exactly what I am seeing happening on your site ...

The URL reads www. and the links if you mouse over them do not have the www in them so Zen Cart is saying one thing and your rewrite is saying another ...

DrByte is good ... let us know when you have gotten this fixed as DrByte has suggested ...
