Painfully slow basic install 5+sec to load initial page???

Hi im totaly new to zen cart, and have just embarked on my first install of ZenCart 1.3.8a and for some reason the base site template takes ages to load and then just as long to change the page.

Im not sure if i have configured something wrongly, there are no items no massive images as its the default template so it should be really quick.

Other websites hosted on my server are almost instant to load but the two install i have done of Zen are both the same and run like im back on dial up. I have templates to install over the top of the site but dont want to install them as it will just get even slower as they are more graphical.

I have uploaded the sql cache patch but it did nothing, has anyone else ever come across this problme before?

I could understand if there were large graphics and thousands of files in the DB but these are the bare minimum installs.

Sites can be viewd at

https://www.iplusonline.co.uk
https://www.dandncomputing.co.uk

thanks in advance, and sorry if this has been posted before but the only answers i could find were related to large image files and compressing them

and hosting windows based in the uk if that makes a diffrence

Why did you choose Windows hosting? I would recommend having the sites moved to Unix hosting.

Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

Hi the other sites asp.net and connect to an mssql database, this is also the reason for choosing windows based hosting as 90% of my sites require asp

Also just another note, have also installed osticket which I php based and connects to mysql database and the loading time is almost instant , ok it's alot smaller than the zen install but really can't understand why they are both so slow.

Re: Painfully slow basic install 5+sec to load initial page???

Hi,

On one of the sites could you switch on 'Display The Page Parse Time' in the Admin (Configuration -> Logging). It might give a clue as to which part of the server config is causing the problem.

As Kim already said, some form of Unix hosting would probably be better.

Regards,
Christian.

Re: Painfully slow basic install 5+sec to load initial page???

Hi thanks for the reply, have turned on the config as you suggested in the dandncomputing.co.uk site and parse time results dont seem to line up with the time it takes to load the page, however i may be reading incorrectly.

And the linx hosting isnt a cost effective option at the moment and really there should be no need to use a sepeate hosting package to run my php based applications. I would imagine that there a huge ammount of zen installs on windows based servers that are running just as well as a unix based server.

Re: Painfully slow basic install 5+sec to load initial page???

I looked at your site and then the parse time info on one of my test sites. The parse time is almost exactly the same and the query time is somewhat quicker on your site, but my test site loads almost immediately, where yours takes about 8 seconds.

Whatever the problem is, it looks like it isn't those two factors, anyway. Do you have any kind of re-directing going on ?

Re: Painfully slow basic install 5+sec to load initial page???

Hi thanks fro the reply

no not to my knowledge anyway, even tried on my connection in work and we are on the government connection and it still takes the same time to load which makes no sense at all.

Do you think the host would be able to advise on the issue?

thanks again

Re: Painfully slow basic install 5+sec to load initial page???

That's who I would be asking. I don't see it as a Zencart problem, since most installations (even on the evil Windows servers :smile:) don't do that.

Could you peek in your Admin and go to the Tools ... Server Info ... and see if the Load averages are displayed ...

I think it is time to speak to your hosting provider to see if there are problems with the server ... :unsure:

Re: Painfully slow basic install 5+sec to load initial page???

Just sent them an email to see if they can see an issues etc, just seems really strange, i know Zen is a php app so it should really sit on a unix based server but cant imagine a windows server stoping it from work as it should.

thanks again

Re: Painfully slow basic install 5+sec to load initial page???

l3wyh:

have just embarked on my first install of ZenCart 1.3.8a
As these are new installs I would strongly suggest starting with ZC v1.3.9d as v1.3.8a is a couple of years old now and requires numerous bug fixes and security patches applying. V1.3.9d has all of these and more already included.

Looking at the Page Parse time and Query Time everything looks fine, except each page is still taking 6 - 9 seconds to load. Very odd.

I would guess at there being something wrong with the PHP setup but you say you have another PHP application that is running fine.

In the /includes/configure.php file what is STORE_SESSIONS defined as?

Regards,
Christian.

Re: Painfully slow basic install 5+sec to load initial page???

Downloaded the file as this is the config for the DB (minsu usernames and passwords, not sure if it looks right as i have never knowingly changed anything and left the default settings on install

// define our database connection
define('DB_TYPE', 'mysql');
define('DB_PREFIX', '');
define('DB_SERVER', 'localhost');
define('DB_SERVER_USERNAME', '');
define('DB_SERVER_PASSWORD', '
');
define('DB_DATABASE', '***********');
define('USE_PCONNECT', 'false');
define('STORE_SESSIONS', 'db');
// for STORE_SESSIONS, use 'db' for best support, or '' for file-based storage

// The next 2 "defines" are for SQL cache support.
// For SQL_CACHE_METHOD, you can select from: none, database, or file
// If you choose "file", then you need to set the DIR_FS_SQL_CACHE to a directory where your apache
// or webserver user has write privileges (chmod 666 or 777). We recommend using the "cache" folder inside the Zen Cart folder
// ie: /path/to/your/webspace/public_html/zen/cache -- leave no trailing slash
define('SQL_CACHE_METHOD', 'none');
define('DIR_FS_SQL_CACHE', 'C:/inetpub/vhosts/dandncomputing.co.uk/httpdocs/cache')

Re: Painfully slow basic install 5+sec to load initial page???

Okay, the session settings look fine.

There is one more test I can think of. Create a file called info.php and put the following into it...

<?php
phpinfo();
?>
```...then upload it to your ZC site's document root (where index.php is).
If you then browse to it does it come up quickly and display information about your PHP settings? If it displays an error message or takes 6+ seconds to do anything then there is a problem with PHP.
Regards,
Christian.
Re: Painfully slow basic install 5+sec to load initial page???
thanks again for the help very much appreciated.
Looks like it may be a slight problme as it takes the same to load the page as the others, except the other php based app i have installed (osticket) is on the same server just on a subdomain of a different domain and it loads instantly and so does the info.php file.
Still waiting for a snr tech to get back to me from the host so they will hope fully be able to see the problem
thanks again, help and advice is much appreciated
Re: Painfully slow basic install 5+sec to load initial page???
Problem appears to be solved, not sure if anyone can now see a differrence in the loading speed on the two installs.
It appears that it was a server configuration, and was simply fixed by using " run as FastCGI Application" in the web hosting settings in plesk
again thanks very much for the help everyone, very much appreicated
thanks
Glad you got it fixed. I went to both of your sites to check the speed for you but they are both showing a holding page at the moment.
Christian.
