Why so slow? Twist of Nature template

I am running the Zen Cart Twist of Nature template and man is it slow. New site, I only have a hand full of pics loaded on the entire site, but it has been slow since I first down loaded it. It takes way to long to load every page and every item.

Is there something on the new template that I can dump to speed thing up?

Thanks

Re: Why so slow? Twist of Nature template

Ok Kobra I changed it and these are 5 of the results I got by clicking on different pages.

What does this mean?

Parse Time: 6.997 - Number of Queries: 98 - Query Time: 1.3680790989685

Parse Time: 2.617 - Number of Queries: 155 - Query Time: 0.48432017658997

Parse Time: 1.536 - Number of Queries: 88 - Query Time: 0.16512544403076

Parse Time: 1.954 - Number of Queries: 155 - Query Time: 0.15045268109131

Parse Time: 1.377 - Number of Queries: 88 - Query Time: 0.058942883331299

What does this mean, and should I leave this "on"?

Thanks

Re: Why so slow? Twist of Nature template

You did not leave the parse enabled????

Search for your host name on this forum and see the issues with them
They are a mass marketed provider and fine if one is wanting a static set of pages or to view pictures of grandchildren etc
Leaves a lot to be desired if you are attempting to operate a business.

Yes cheap, but you get what you pay for...

If you complain to them repeatedly they will attempt to up sell you to a more costly plan and their personnel for the most part do not have a clue what a DB driven application requires

No, I shut it back off, I will turn it on so you can see it.

So, can I switch to a different host after just signing up and getting this one, or am I stuck with it now for the next two years. I already paid for two years :( live and learn I guess

Post the first 30 or so lines of your /includes/configure.php file here

Will it help with the speed of it?
While apache resolves this, it takes it a while, still it can't hurt

But that is not the point, they are incorrect

Re: Why so slow? Twist of Nature template

I hope this is ok to post this here, I am still concerned and dont know about all the security issues I may encounter

Here the whole thing

Re: Why so slow? Twist of Nature template

There it is...

// * DIR_WS_* = Webserver directories (virtual/URL)
// these paths are relative to top of your webspace ... (ie: under the public_html or httpdocs folder)
define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '//');
define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_CATALOG', '//');

Change to this

// * DIR_WS_* = Webserver directories (virtual/URL)
// these paths are relative to top of your webspace ... (ie: under the public_html or httpdocs folder)
define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/');
define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_CATALOG', '/');

Use your hosts file manager and chenge the permissions to 644 first
upload then change back permissions

Re: Why so slow? Twist of Nature template

If your host provides cpanel, use the file manaqer to change permissions
If not consult host docs on how to change file permissions

Re: Why so slow? Twist of Nature template

Remember that everyone starts out knowing nothing and works from there. So at some point in time we all were at the same level as yourself. :wink:

With that said, within the Control Panel for your Hosting account there is something called "File Manager" (or close to it) which will allow you to view your files. There should also be a way to see what is called "permissions" for those files. The "configure.php" file probably has permissions of 444 which you need to change to 644.

If not sure how to do the above then you should be able to get help from your Hoster by contacting Support.

Also, although changing the file regarding the extra forward slash would make the code more correct, it will not help with the slowness of your site. That is caused by the Server being overloaded; meaning too many Hosting accounts to properly handle. Nothing you can do except ask to be moved to another of their Servers or move your site to another Hoster.

The learning is in the doing.

Thanks for the kind and encouraging words.

Ok I went ito my host and into File Manager, and found the configure in there, but it shows no permissions at all. I can click on it and edit it, can I make this change in there. and will it stick. When highlight the configure, the permission button is "ghosted out" Like I cant click on it.
