Large Product Images not showing

I've never had this happen to me with an install before.

Zencart v 1.3.9h

Just upgraded Image Hander from 2 to 3 and the issue remains.

For some reason, which has never happened before, the large product images do not show, but the product listing and thumbnails are just fine.

The large product images shows in the Image Handler manage section - so the cart is recognizing them ...

Like with other Zencarts I've installed (and on the same server), I have sub-folders for images to help divide up the load.

Here's a product, for example, where the image doesn't show. If you move around the cart, you will see I do not have images showing for sub-categories yet - that'll be something I'm doing after the products are loaded.

http://174.121.38.162/~fordbare/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_16&products_id=3

I've never had this happen with Zencart before. And this is the only issue I'm having.

This problem existed from the beginning - before even designing the product page, so it's not a code error from that.

Yes, permissions are set on all the images folders appropriately.

Any ideas?

Re: Large Product Images not showing

That's what I don't understand.

I'm uploading the images as per usual ... like I've done literally thousands of times before.

What is causing them to not exist this time?

If the thumbs are showing, why are not the 2 larger versions since the various sizes come from one file?

Like I said, they are showing in the Image Handler manage section, so they are being recognized.

Re: Large Product Images not showing

ImageHandler doesn't use the /images/medium or /images/large files.
I assert again: the reason for your problem is that the physical files are not on the server. Or, if they are, then you've got the permissions set so low on them that the webserver can't see them. I doubt it's a permissions issue.

Re: Large Product Images not showing

I guess there's some confusion then.

If I upload picture.jpg to /images/widget folder ... and the thumbnail size of the picture is viewable ... why isn't the other sizes viewable. Obviously the file IS on the server if the thumbnail size of the picture is showing. It's as if something is blocking the larger sizes of the image file from being viewed.

Never, in previous versions of Zencart, nor in the current version, have I ever needed to upload a picture file to /medium or /large folders in order to get those sizes to show.

I have 2 other Zencarts on the same server (my server), using the same version and the same contributions added. And I upload the product images the exact same way with each of them.

The permissions for the images folders are set at 777, as per instructions.

Re: Large Product Images not showing

I just took a screen shot of the product image file for the aforementioned product. It's been there since May 10th.

The permissions on the folder is 777.
Where you load the product, the correct image folder has been selected.

Guessing something must be amuck with the code changes your ImageHandler has made to the core files.

Re: Large Product Images not showing

Ok, I've gone over this time and time again and I STILL can't figure out why the product image is not showing on the individual product pages. I've re-uploaded appropriate unedited zencart files to the site, one by one. Still no change to the situation.

The thumbnail shows on product listing pages.
The larger image shows when you click to enlarge the image.

The http://174.121.38.162/~fordbare/index.php store is using the same template as the http://www.aaglockshop.com store for the individual product pages ... literally - I uploaded the file straight-up, no cut/paste or editing.

With or without IH 2 or 3 ... the problem persists. Right now, there is no IH added.

If I move the image sub folders (ie, images/mirrors, images/accessories) to the images/medium folder - the product image then shows, but the thumbs and larger image do not. It's like I can only have one or the other.

Also, additional images are not showing, even though the code for it was left intact in the tpl_product_info_display.php file. All the appropriate additional image files are intact.

I'm at a complete loss.

Page source for the individual product pages shows the following javascript:

<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"><!--
document.write('<a href="javascript:popupWindow(\'http://174.121.38.162/~fordbare/index.php?main_page=popup_image&pID=275\')"><img src="images/medium/accessories/FKB03.jpg" alt="Key Blank - Ignition-Door - 65-66 Mustang" title=" Key Blank - Ignition-Door - 65-66 Mustang " width="150" height="0" /><br /><span class="imgLink">larger image</span></a>');
//--></script>

How can I tell it NOT to look into the /images/medium/ folder for the product image? Or is there something in Admin configuration I can do?

Re: Large Product Images not showing

In your admin, did you set the image filename as just /accessories/FKB03.jpg ? Or do you have the "/medium" in there too by mistake?

Re: Large Product Images not showing

I'm not sure where in Admin you are referring to, off-hand.

When loading the products, I tell it to upload the product image to the appropriate directory, such as images/accessories, or images/mirrors, or images/interior

I've setup the images folders like I've done with every Zencart I've worked with ... sub-categorized the images folder. I've NEVER had to put any images in the images/medium or images/large folder with any Zencart I've worked with.

Re: Large Product Images not showing

I'm talking about browsing your list of categories in your admin, and then clicking on a particular product to edit its name/description/price/etc ... on that same screen is where you specify the image for that product. What have you got set there?

As for your "NEVER had to put any images in the images/medium folder" comment, note that using uncustomized original ZC you would ONLY upload images to the /images/medium/ or /images/large/ folder/subfolders using FTP, and not via your admin. And, if you want the built-in multiple-image support to work, you would have to upload said images to those folders. That's ALL explained in detail here: https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=58
But, I'm sure you understand that completely, so I mention it for the sake of future readers so they're not misled by your statement.

Re: Large Product Images not showing

Analysis:
Consider this product: http://174.121.38.162/~fordbare/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_11&products_id=275 Note that the image doesn't show.
Product in category has an image: http://174.121.38.162/~fordbare/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_11
Product image URL from product-listing: http://174.121.38.162/~fordbare/images/accessories/FKB03.jpg

So, that says your product image is correctly set to: accessories/FKB03.jpg

But the default configuration of Zen Cart is to use the "medium" image on the product-info page. In a clean uncustomized install of Zen Cart, that would refer to /images/medium/accessories/FKB03**_MED**.jpg
Now, your site, according to the raw HTML, has been altered somehow, and is looking for only /images/medium/accessories/FKB03.jpg (Note the missing "_MED" suffix).

And, attempting to access EITHER image name in your /images/medium/accessories/ folder brings back a 0-byte file, suggesting that there's something intercepting the delivery of such an image file, either because it doesn't exist, or you've got something set up to block stuff from your /images/medium/ or /images/medium/accessories/ folder, perhaps added extra .htaccess restrictions that didn't come in Zen Cart's original files.

So, your browser is doing exactly what it's told to do. You're seeing no "medium" image on your product-info page because your browser is getting a 0-byte (empty) image file, and thus shows nothing for the image, leaving only the "larger image" text link.

It's quite likely that your large-image processing is encountering the same problems, and thus is correctly defaulting to the default thumbnail/primary image when someone clicks the larger-image link.

DrByte:

Answer in my previous post grins

As for your "NEVER had to put any images in the images/medium folder" comment, note that using uncustomized original ZC you would ONLY upload images to the /images/medium/ or /images/large/ folder/subfolders using FTP, and not via your admin.

Huh! That's a head-scratcher. Again, I've never had to put any images in the /medium or /large folders because everything always worked with putting images in various folders to break up the load. And just to clarify, this was in uncustomized ZC just so I would have some products to work with and see in order to customize.

Also, when I load products, I always load the image via the admin. Any additional product images, I've uploaded via FTP.

And, if you want the built-in multiple-image support to work, you would have to upload said images to those folders. That's ALL explained in detail here: https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=58

So, just to clarify, based on the tutorial et al ... I would have to upload a product image to three separate folders?

Example, a product image for a mirror would go under:
/images/mirrors/
/images/medium/mirrors/
/images/large/mirrors/

When I moved the /mirrors/ folder into the /medium/ folder, I gained my product images, but lost my thumbs in the product listing page and the large pop up image. So, if I just copied the sub-category folders I had created into the /medium/ folder, then it SHOULD work?? [I'm gonna go try that when I'm done posting.]

But, I'm sure you understand that completely, so I mention it for the sake of future readers so they're not misled by your statement.

Not a problem. It certainly doesn't hurt to clarify these matters so setting up our carts are smooth sailing!

If you only ever used a single image per product, one-size-fits-all, then naturally that would be fine. If you're wanting to actually use multiple sized images, then you need to follow the prescribed pattern.

Or use an addon that completely changes how the built-in functionality works, and then follow the instructions for that addon instead. But then all support/documentation is up to whatever is provided by that addon, if any.

Re: Large Product Images not showing

From the tutorial ...

  • /images/abcd.jpg -- the thumbnail shown in all the category pages and sideboxes
  • /images/medium/abcd_MED.jpg -- the main product image shown on the product page itself
  • /images/large/abcd_LRG.jpg -- the large version of the main product image, which is shown if the medium image is clicked

Ok, I'm understanding this now.

I'm just really curious now why I have never had to load images into the /medium/ and /large/ folders before? And I mean prior to adding IH script (which is the only image related customization I add, well after my template is customized).

I really must have mutant ZC files (uncustomized, default), because I still don't need any images in the /large/ file to have large images show.

Ah well.

Thanks SO MUCH, Dr. Byte for helping out in this thread. You're very patient! :bigups:

I still don't know why this install is acting differently for all the other installs of the latest version of ZC I've done, when everything is the exact same (customizations, etc). :frusty:

Re: Large Product Images not showing

Do note also ... when ZC finds no "large" image, it will fallback to a "medium" if one exists, and if that's not found, then it'll default to the primary image.
So, maybe what you've been seeing all along is just the primary image that was big enough to confuse you into thinking it was the large image.

Remember the primary image is set to display only as large as you've defined its settings in your admin config. And medium similarly. Large images have no dimension restrictions applied to them, so will show at whatever size you supply when uploading the file.

So, if your "primary" image is actually an 800x600 image instead of 80x100 then you could be under an illusion, since the same image could be used in 3 places but show in different sizes.
Naturally that has its pro's and con's. Using a very large image as primary is a waste of bandwidth and slows down page loads. Using the same image in all 3 places saves on server storage space.

AHHHHH! That is what is happening. I do indeed just use one image size ... nothing big like 800x600 ... but more like 400x300 or similar. But I see what you are saying about the large images now.

Thank you!

Re: Large Product Images not showing

I think I have one more question and I should be go to go concerning images ...

http://174.121.38.162/~fordbare/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_23&products_id=301

This is only 1 of 2 products thus far that has more than one image.
I now have the images in:

/images/sub-cat-folder/
/images/medium/sub-cat-folder/
/images/large/sub-cat-folder/

However, the large image for the 2nd image is showing the image for the main product image.

The main product image for this product is:
FOMS01.jpg
And the additional image is:
FOMS01_1.jpg

Did I not hold my tongue right? hehe

That's because you're missing the large image: /images/large/mirrors/FOMS01_1**_LRG**.jpg
