My downloadable products won't redirect properly

I have Zencart installed on my server and I am unable to accomplish my desired result.

I want to have a shopping cart with the different catagories of my photography. Within each catagory, I want the ability to sell digital files of my photos with instant downloadable media upon confirmation of payment with paypal. I have added my paypal API information.

Can someone help me get this off the ground so I can market my photos?

The webpage is http://sales.michaelhulak.com/

There are instructions in the tutorials/faq's section for setting up downloadable products ;-)

Thanks,

Re: My downloadable products won't redirect properly

If you've configured your PayPal modules with a Payment Zone other than --none-- then that's probably filtering those modules out from being visible to your customers.

payment zone are none for
PayPal Website Payments Pro (USA) PayPal 0 Processing

could this be where my issue is?

PayPal Website Payments Standard - IPN PayPal
if i try to see if this one will do what i want, it says
NOTE: PayPal Express Checkout module already installed. You don't need Standard if you have Express installed.

No. That's as it should be.
Your best choice is indeed Express Checkout.

You don't need Website Payments Pro if you haven't signed up for that service with PayPal.

And Website Payments Standard is ... well ... old. Express Checkout is your best choice.

MHuak:

That's because you've not configured the module correctly.

For example, when I click on the orange PayPal payment button I get an error message: We are sorry for the inconvenience. The PayPal account authentication settings are not yet set up, or the API security information is incorrect. We are unable to complete your transaction. Please notify the store owner so they can correct this problem. (10002)

You need to do the setup of your Express Checkout module before it will work properly. https://www.zen-cart.com/getpaypal

Re: My downloadable products won't redirect properly

i have the item now acknowleging the option for download zip as per the tutorial. My previous problem was the fact I had the item price $0.00 so paypal wouldn't come up. I changed the price to a penny and I see paypal now.

I tested it and it brings me to paypal and I get the order, but the purchaser doesnt get redireted to the download link. I logged in as the user and there also wasnt an option for a download.

where do I put the reference to the download?
does zen rename the download file so the digital media is not downloaded whenever someone feels like

MHulak:

I tested it and it brings me to paypal and I get the order, but the purchaser doesnt get redireted to the download link.If the customer actually selected the download zip by choosing it before they clicked Add To Cart, then the download link will be shown in two places:

  • the checkout_success page
  • the customer's My Account page, under View Details on each order
But, that link only appears if the payment has set the order into a non-Pending status.

MHulak:

I logged in as the user and there also wasnt an option for a download.See above
MHulak:

where do I put the reference to the download? You don't. The customer chooses the download before adding to cart, and then everything else is automated.> MHulak:

does zen rename the download file so the digital media is not downloaded whenever someone feels likeYes. Unless your server doesn't support that.

Re: My downloadable products won't redirect properly

thank you for the help so far. i am impressed by the community and the help. so very friendly.

i have tested it again with the status delivered and a few more hurdles need crossed.

  • after the payment to paypal, there is no link to the download
  • there is no email with the download address
  • the download is shown in the user's My Account > History, but there is no clickable link. the url is there (see attached screenshot)
  • the download link is exact url of the fies to download. this file was downloadable without payment. it is set to 7 days or 5x download. after downloading. the count is still 5x

You don't.

Zen Cart doesn't serve links to externally-hosted downloads.

You must provide the actual filename of the file on YOUR OWN SERVER.

If you follow the tutorials about it, they tell you to upload the file to your site's /download/ folder. Then you specify the filename in your admin when you link up the attribute to the product.
(If the file you specify doesn't exist, you'll see the red dot you mentioned in your other post.)

Then when the customer selects that attribute and adds the item to the cart, Zen Cart takes care of the rest.

There's no support for giving out URLs to externally hosted files at this time.

Re: My downloadable products won't redirect properly

the file resides on the server that zen is hosted on.

i previously had the file in /sales.michaelhulak.com/download/nature_macros/2011-06-03-IMG-2811.zip and it showed the red dot (reason why there is no link for customers to download??)

i since moved the file amnd updatd the reference to /sales.michaelhulak.com/download/2011-06-03-IMG-2811.zip

i still see the red invalid link icon

see screenshot attached

both work by directly going to the link that i tried

sales.michaelhulak.com/download/2011-06-03-IMG-2811.zip

sales.michaelhulak.com/download/nature_macros/2011-06-03-IMG-2811.zip

Re: My downloadable products won't redirect properly

MHulak:

Right. If there's a red dot, then no download link will show, because there's nothing to download, since nothing's there that's configured correctly.
MHulak:

i since moved the file amnd updatd the reference to /sales.michaelhulak.com/download/2011-06-03-IMG-2811.zip
If your site is in /public_html/index.php
then that means your download file would be in /public_html/download/
and thus in the Attributes settings you'd enter JUST the filename, ie: 2011-06-03-IMG-2811.zip
NOT A COMPLETE PATH.
Zen Cart will add the /download/ path etc as needed.

Re: My downloadable products won't redirect properly

im closer.

i get orders fine now and the link is being made.

in my pub folder i get a new folder something like .odjf0usdfif and within the folder is a zip file. however, the file size if nothing. when the customer clicks on the link that directs it to that file, they get a 403

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /pub/.frordzlvowdviziybnnu/2011-08-29-IMG_5562-Polar-Bear.zip on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

i checked access to the folder is 777 and all sub dirs

Re: My downloadable products won't redirect properly

Work with your hosting company to determine why your visitors are encountering a 403-Forbidden response.

A clean default install of Zen Cart won't trigger a 403 under those conditions if permissions are properly set. But, if your server has special permissions requirements, then you'll need to sort that out with your hosting company.

Take note of the Apache requirements here: https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=287

Re: My downloadable products won't redirect properly

Probably.

If you can't get symlinks enabled, then you can serve downloads without symlinks, but they'll be less secure, ie: links easily shared with friends who haven't purchased.

Re: My downloadable products won't redirect properly

where is the problem??

my server responded to me with the following.

Thank you for contacting us.

The problem is that the file your software is searching for does not exist. If you navigate to the File Manager you will see that there is no /home/www/pub directory and a file inside it as the file is actually located at /home/www/sales.michaelhulak.com/pub/.ezkbrkxbujggdz/2011-08-29-IMG_5562-Polar-Bear.zip

What you need to do is configure your Zencart properly as currently it is searching for files using incorrect location.
