issues with upgrading and the admin changes

HI,
I'm upgrading from 1.3.9h to 1.5

I managed to get a test site up and running and have managed to change permissions and rename my admin folder... however I am struggling to access the admin.

So I went into the config file and attempted to change the suggested 3 fields and found that eventually I could access admin if I just filled in the DIR_FS field with the relevant admin filename.

however the admin button to open the online catalogue then seems to not work...?

Re: issues with upgrading and the admin changes

If you installed 1.5.0 in your test site, you didn't need to edit the configure.php file when you changed the admin folder name.

What does 'struggling to access the admin' mean ?

Re: issues with upgrading and the admin changes

ie the admin section wouldn't come up once I renamed the folder so I went into the config file to try to rectify this.

After I edited the config file I could access admin and change things... but now I cannot access the store from the admin button...

Re: issues with upgrading and the admin changes

Can you access the store directly (not through the button in admin) ?

Re: issues with upgrading and the admin changes

Yes, if I put the https://www.mywebsite.co.uk/store_NEW

Then I can see the store and everything... just wondered if I had broken something significant... as the button from the admin section for seeing the online catalogue doesn't work

It seemed strange also that I only edited the * DIR_FS_* file endings and not * DIR_WS_* in the config file.

Re: issues with upgrading and the admin changes

Are you talking about changing configure.php files that were built by the v1.5.0 installer? Or did you copy those files from your old site and merely edit the paths in them? The new v1.5.0 version of the files handle paths differently, so making edits is seldom necessary.

Re: issues with upgrading and the admin changes

I edited the configure.php file in the 1.5 version to include the sql information and then edited the DIR_FS entry when I couldn't access the admin.

I did try just renaming the admin folder on the test install but found I couldn't access admin it came up with a 404 error saying
it didn't exist.

Re: issues with upgrading and the admin changes

From your last post it sounds as though your real problem is why you were getting a 404 error when trying to access the admin.

Editing the FS entry in the config file is merely adding a layer of extra fog over the top, as in 1.5 this isn't necessary and may cause additional problems.

Are you using a URL rewriting mod, such as Ceon's URI Mapping? If so, you would need to exclude the admin folder name from your rewrites to be able to access it, otherwise it will get processed as though it were a page rather than a section of your site, leading to a 404 error, such as you saw.

Re: issues with upgrading and the admin changes

I am not using a re-write of the url...??

basically I put a new folder into my website called store_NEW. I copied my existing sql database and made a new one. Then I ran zc_install and made all the files chmod 777 and did the database upgrade.

I added the sql info to the admin and includes config file.

I then renamed admin as requested and removed zc_install.

Then tried to access admin and got the 404 error.:shocking:

So I guess that the config file is not seeing the admin.

I'm wondering if I need to start again......

however still got the online catalogue button from admin linking to
mywebsite.co.uk/index.php? and not mywebsite.co.uk/store_NEW/index.php?

Re: issues with upgrading and the admin changes

Further to the online catalogue button in admin ... I now find the gift certificates are not showing the currency £ sign...

and that all my previous sales in the admin show ?30 instead of £30...

not sure if this is due to the database upgrade or whether a coding thing???

Re: issues with upgrading and the admin changes

didn't need to touch the config files... just the english.php file in includes/languages and admin/includes/languages

still getting the admin online catalogue button linking to mystore.com/index and not mystore.com/_NEW/

I'm guessing that along with PA_DSS it is required that google analytics is not part of v1.5 admin ? Or is there just no addon for it yet?

still getting the admin online catalogue button linking to mystore.com/index and not mystore.com/_NEW/that means your DIR_WS_CATALOG setting is wrong in your admin configure.php file

Or is there just no addon for it yet?Possibly. Check the addons section.

Hey. It does pay to search the forum first!

Thats quite a subtle change which had me scratching my dogs nuts. I went to edit the admin config file and looked for what should have been my admin directory name and I couldnt find anything but one "/" . Thats very different from the old config file. So I tried inserting my new admin dir name. no luck getting to admin. When I put it back to the orginal name I got right to it. Is this some database stored value now? Otherwise where does ZC know where the admin folder is?

Zen Cart merely looks at where you came to in your server's file system and uses this information to keep you there for subsequent pages.

This means that if you rename your admin and then go there, Zen Cart will spot where you've now landed and use that location instead.

Re: issues with upgrading and the admin changes

For those of us who have been using ZC for a number of years, this is a major revelation that I venture to guess, not many know about.

There really really really needs to be some mention in a BIG WAY of this change in the readme file. For years we have been going to the admin config file to post the location of the admin file. Now that method is gone and folks like me are wondering how to inform ZC where the admin folder is.

I read your post but I am still puzzled how ZC will pick up on any change of my admin folder NAME. So in response to your post about me knowing where the admin folder is...of course I do. My point was how do we inform AC the location?

You said that I have to name it and then navigate there and ZC will detect it. What if I merely rename it?

Re: issues with upgrading and the admin changes

The whole idea is that you SIMPLY rename the folder. There's no hard-coded path required in the configure.php file, which makes it much simpler to rename your admin folder, because ALL you need to do is just rename the folder. No special configuration changes required.
