Suddenly my store started charging sales tax for all

I use Version 150. This just started happening for some reason. When I add an item to the shopping cart and choose check out with paypal on the paypal page it show the item the price and sales tax. We currently only charge tax in 1 state no others, but tax is shown without any information enetered on either site. Paypal tech said "your Shop is sending for all transactions with PayPal Express an tax amount." any idea how to fix this issue? It seems like this just started happening in the past week or so.

Something somewhere had to have been changed - the program doesn't just "break" - What mods have you added? Has your host changed? What settings have you changed?

Double check your Zone Definitions in Locations / Taxes ... Zones Definitions ... and check the DETAILS to see what you have defined for the Zone that you have set up for the Tax Rate that you are using ...

Thank you for your help. I just added recover cart, before noticing this issue. I have 4 zones set 1.US-minus AK & HI 2. Canada + AK, HI 3.APO no tax rate in any of theses zones. 4-my state with sales tax defined for my state only. If I delete my state tax, paypal shows no tax on their page, when I put it back their site adds it back. I tried deleting zone 4 and adding tax rate to my state in zone 1 same problem???

Go to the DETAILS of your State Zone ... what are the DETAILS set to ...

Details--Country: United States Zone: My State. Should I delete my state from zone 1? and just have it as zone 4? <Tried that but no help.

If Zone 4 is for Taxes for your state, then that is the only 1 that should be for taxes and that Zone should be used for that ...

1 is the icon green on it?

2 what are your settings on the Tax Rate for that Zone?

3 Check your other Zone Definitions and make sure none of them have a Tax rate on them ...

Zone 1=us-AK & HI includes my state icon is yellow no tax rate. Zone 2=Canada + AK & HI icon yellow no tax rate. Zone 3=APO icon yellow no tax rate. Zone 4= my state icon green 1 tax rate. Tax rate setting=priority 0, Tax class=my state, zone=my state, tax rate= 8% description=blank.

On your Zone for your State with the Tax Rate ... set the Tax rate setting Priority to be 1 ...

It was set to one, I changed it to 0 this morning. I have changed it back to 1 tax still showing.

Go to Configuration ... My Store ... what is the setting for the:

Basis of Product Tax
On what basis is Product Tax calculated. Options are
Shipping - Based on customers Shipping Address
Billing Based on customers Billing address
Store - Based on Store address if Billing/Shipping Zone equals Store zone

set to shipping. should it be set to store?

No, if you set it to Store then all get charged ...

Have you an URL to a Product that is marked as Taxable goods?

Edit your Zone for your State and on the Tax Rate, give it a Description ...

Go to the Configuration ... My Store ... and check the setting for:

Sales Tax Display Status
Always show Sales Tax even when amount is $0.00?
0= Off
1= On

Do you always want the line for Taxes when $0.00 to still show?

NOTE: do you notice if logged in and not with a Oklahoma address that the tax does not show?

When NOT logged in and you click the PayPal Express button it shows the Tax as it does not know who you are yet and whether you should be taxed or not ...

Can I add description like Oklahoma sales tax? Sales Tax Display Status is set to 1(on). I found out about this because someone emailed that they did not buy from me because of the tax showing?? I have checked a few other site using paypal I do not see tax when I click pay with paypal. Have not had actual orders come in with tax charged outside of ok. I really appreciate your help.:smile:

If you login and go through checkout with a shipping address other than Oklahoma the tax will not be there ...

If you go to PayPal via the Express button, until the shipping address is known, the tax will show ...

One way to avoid that is not to have the PayPal Express button active on the shopping_cart page ...

Otherwise, the customer has to wait until their shipping address is set to not see the tax ...

Thanks again for all of your help. Should I leave Sales Tax Display Status set to 1(on)? Did paypal just start this? I have never noticed tax before, when I have add items to cart and went to paypal for testing.

Leave priority on 1 ...

Pretty sure PayPal express has always worked this way, that when an unknown shipping address is used, it uses the Store and that will show tax ...

I tried to place an order using paypal and got this error "10445 This transaction cannot be processed at this time. Please try again later."

Something is a miss, I added recently image handler 4, and most recent recover cart. Help!! Please!!
