Facebook Comments plugin

I have just submitted Zen Cart Facebook Comments plugin to the contributions section, hopefully it will get approved soon.

It's a simple integration of the popular Facebook Comments system and shows the comments on your product info page. All options are controlled from the admin.

I'll do my best to provide support for the module, but can't guarantee anything...

P.S. If anyone wants to get the plugin before it's approved, you're welcome to PM me.

Can you post a link with a working version of this module?

Re: Facebook Comments plugin

Can this be used as a "Ask a question" tab... Would there be a way for us to respond to the question if so? That would be very helpful and useful. As I see it, I don't see much value in just allowing people to comment on a product.

You don't see much value in Facebook Comments? Well, OK, but I never had anything against free marketing... :smile:

Anyway, yes, you can use this as a public Q&A module, why not? You can reply to any comment you get. After you enter you FB Admin ID, Facebook allows you to remove unwanted comments.

Have fun!

Re: Facebook Comments plugin

balihr,

Thank you for this plugin. I do have a question. Is it possible to use this on other pages, such as an about us page, ez page or whatever?
If so, which files would I edit to include the plugin on those pages? Thanks for any help.

Re: Facebook Comments plugin

Sure, but there are limitations. If you want to use it on EZ Pages, you would have to add support for php to run on it (search the forum for instructions). All other pages should normally support it, just add the following code where you want to place it:

<div id="facebookComments">
	<fb:comments data-href="<?php echo $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] .$_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']; ?>" num_posts="<?php echo FACEBOOK_COMMENTS_POSTS; ?>" width="<?php echo FACEBOOK_COMMENTS_WIDTH; ?>"></fb:comments>
</div>

Good luck.

Re: Facebook Comments plugin

balihr,

Thank you for this wonderful facebook comment plugin. Just want to check with you, in my includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/ there is no such file by the name of tpl_main_page.php.

Can i just copy and ftp your file in the above file directory. Just asking before i proceed with the installation.

Thanks in advance

Re: Facebook Comments plugin

Assuming you know that you need to rename YOUR_TEMPLATE to (in your case) alysa_rounded, then yes, you can just copy it if it doesn't overwrite anything.

Re: Facebook Comments plugin

Thank you for this add on.
It was confusing when asked find your profile ID (15 digits number), because mine is 12 digits and I thought that I had missed something.
Should the product image show in facebook?

Really? Hehe, I didn't know there were 12 digit profile IDs... Sorry about that.

Honestly, I have no idea. I don't use it myself, I just built it after a client asked me about it.

Re: Facebook Comments plugin

Well, thank you for sharing the add on.

Perhaps others could let me know about the pics, it maybe image size that stops them being displayed.

Just mentioned the profile ID digits in case someone else got confused.

Re: Facebook Comments plugin

I found that I could not disable the module from admin.

In

tpl_product_info_display.php

I changed

<?php if (FACEBOOK_COMMENTS_STATUS == true){ ?>

to

<?php if (FACEBOOK_COMMENTS_STATUS == 'true'){ ?>

and now I can turn it on and off in admin.

Re: Facebook Comments plugin

You may want to edit the sql where it says
INSERT INTO configuration_group (configuration_group_id, configuration_group_title, configuration_group_description, sort_order, visible) VALUES (NULL, 'ZX Slideshow Configuration by ZenExpert', 'Set Slideshow Options', '1', '1');

to
INSERT INTO configuration_group (configuration_group_id, configuration_group_title, configuration_group_description, sort_order, visible) VALUES (NULL, 'Facebook Comments by ZenExpert', 'Set Facebook Comments Options', '1', '1');
