Purchase Orders in FEC

linuxguy2:

Y'all,

Are there any plans to add a plain and simple "Purchase Order Number" field to FEC? (on the Confirmation page)
And yes it would need to propagate to the other appropriate forms.
With all the other GREAT features this module has I'm surprised a PO Number field wasn't there from day one.........

I have checked out three of the other PO Number mods and they all have some additional feature which make them undesirable.
Looked into moding a mod like "Ship Date" but they are too complex for what I need.

After reading many posts on PO Number it seems there is a need for it separate from any other hooks like payment etc. or at least an easy way to disable features.

Thanks, for Your time.

Not likely since typically a PO is a PAYMENT module.. Can't see a reason for a checkout module to bundle in a payment module..

That said, if you grab Super Orders, it has a P.O payment module as a part of the package.. Though I've not tried it, in theory, you could extract the module and use it standalone..

If you can't find a free module that suits your needs, you could consider hiring someone to craft this functionality for you..

and let me expand my answer here..

The issue is that you are letting the term "PAYMENT MODULE" throw you off.. A P.O. remitted as part of an ordering process is payment that is an AUTHORIZATION to order and a PROMISE TO PAY.

A purchase order (PO) is a commercial document issued by a buyer to a seller, indicating types, quantities, and agreed prices for products or services the seller will provide to the buyer. Sending a PO to a supplier constitutes a legal offer to buy products or services.

A P.O. is what the customer remits as payment to secure the release of their product. By issuing a P.O. the buyer is agreeing to pay for the goods at terms specified in the P.O.

By accepting the P.O. you are agreeing to those payment terms and will both ship the goods to the buyer, and then invoice them for those goods.

I believe that what you are hung up on is the fact that there is no actual CASH transaction taking place so you want to SKIP the payment step in the checkout.. Except at WHAT POINT in the checkout process do you exactly see is the place to collect the P.O. data?? All you need is a P.O. module to be offered as your ONLY form of payment. Then your customers can enter their P.O. number and place their order in your store. You can then bill them using whatever invoicing software you are using (Quickbooks, Peachtree, etc)

I HONESTLY do not think you need custom development for this unless you are using P.O.'s in some sort of custom/non-standard manner..

Electronic purchase orders

Many purchase orders are no longer paper-based, but rather transmitted electronically over the Internet. It is common for electronic purchase orders to be used to buy goods or services online for services or physical goods of any type.

Again.. In order for ANYONE to help/advise, there needs to be an understanding about WHY the collection of a P.O. number CAN'T be done as a payment module...

Also since this discussion is now FULLY off topic for FEC, I'm going to request that the admins/moderators MOVE all of these posts to a NEW SEPARATE thread..

I don't believe we are speaking of the same thing.. How are your customers PAYING for the order.. Are they PAYING using a P.O. or providing a P.O. after the order has been placed???

Note:
Maybe this doesn't belong in this FEC thread but is it not in the FEC checkout screen where the P.O. Numbers are collected.
1:
I currently use a custom version of the Money Order payment module so my customer never sees any sort of payment boxes or radio buttons.
(P.O. Numbers (when used) are entered after I import the orders into QB.) All I want to do is bring along a P. O. Number if the customer enters one on the checkout screen.
2:
I have I tried 2 different P.O. Number modules and they cause other problems which is most likely due to the way I am using ZC.
3:
Below is a link to the closed thread which has the function that would work for me if updated to 1.5x.
If the link doesn't work then here's the title of the post

Re: Purchase Orders in FEC

That's correct but it was suggested I use one of the payment modules to collect the P.O. Number.
BTW
I am exporting my orders using the "Export Shipping+Order Information" plugin which I will modify to export the P. O. Numbers.

Re: Purchase Orders in FEC

what about a reference field for a customer that has his own way of selling his items and wants a way to reference the order, you can call it what ever you want. I dont see anything in super orders V4.02 that lets a customer input a P.O., However, it does of if they paid by po than it will auto status P.O. Pending and ETC

what about a reference field for a customer that has his own way of selling his items and wants a way to reference the order, you can call it what ever you want. Why?? All you need for this to work is to COLLECT a P.O. number.. There is a module that does this, and it has not YET been explained why it cannot be used and WHAT needs to be done DIFFERENTLY..

Not trying to be difficult here, but so far all that's been posted is the following:

  • I had code that USED to work, now it doesn't (but ZERO explanation as to what "doesn't work" means)
  • I tried to use "other modules" but they don't work (with ZERO explanation as to what "doesn't work" means)
and NONE of this "information" can help the community help anyone..

Based on a limited information provided, and knowing what a P.O. is SUPPOSED to be, and how a P.O. is SUPPOSED to work, I suggested a viable solution, and for reasons that have YET to be made clear, that suggestion is ALSO "not going to work"..

Hard for ANYONE to offer a solution when there isn't enough information given..

jimmie:

I dont see anything in super orders V4.02 that lets a customer input a P.O.,You don't??

Are you SURE?? Did you DOWNLOAD Super Orders?? Because if you did you would very CLEARLY see what I am speaking of..

And let me be CLEAR.. You don't need to install Super Orders JUST to get the P.O. module.. You only need to copy over the files that support the P.O. module that comes with it.. And perhaps even the "Outstanding Payments" report:

This report displays all your outstanding payment paperwork. Each radio
button will search for orders that are missing the indicated transaction piece
(e.g. searching "Purchase Orders" will display orders in which the customer
chose to pay via PO but has not submitted a PO yet).

jimmie:

However, it does of if they paid by po than it will auto status P.O. Pending and ETCSorry I do not understand what it is you are saying/asking here..

DivaVocals,
You are right, for the sake of brevity I did not explain in detail.
(It would take me an hour to type that up)
I can not show the live site as it's restricted to approved customers as the data is proprietary.
When I get the time I will put up a test site to show you the final product.

**NOTE:I have I tried 2 different P.O. Number modules and they cause other problems which is most likely due to the way I am using ZC.

**I did not say there was a problem with the payment modules but rather that the did not work for me due to the way I have customized ZC

Currently I am trying to implement the hack that was posted in 2008.
I will also checkout Super Orders and when I get a solution I will post the results here.
I did not think about just using parts of a plugin as typically all parts are dependent on each other.

Thanks for your time and patience.

Right but you are asking for HELP on this forum.. BREVITY doesn't help the community to help you.. We need the DETAILS to help you, not just the information you THINK we need.. (and not for nothing.. did you notice that there are only TWO of us here chiming in???) Perhaps MORE DETAIL would get a better response from others.. IJS..

I get you can't show the site, but you STILL haven't said what the heck you mean by "** they cause other problems which is most likely due to the way I am using ZC**". Someone in the community MIGHT be able to HELP with that if ONLY you'd say what the heck you mean by that statement.. If only you'd EXPLAIN what P.O. module(s) you installed and what was the ISSUE that brought you to the conclusion that "** they cause other problems which is most likely due to the way I am using ZC**". Make sense???

That said.. I had another thought this morning.. Will have to look because it's been a while, but I don't thing the P.O. module from Super Orders gets you what you want either.. I don't think it captures the P.O. at the time of order placement..

BUT.. I had another thought/suggestion.. There is an OLD Ceon payment module for manual credit cards that could POSSIBLY be adapted to accommodate the collection of the P.O. number.. You of course will have to modify the code to adapt it for this purpose, but I think it might do the trick.. On that SAME note, look for the Direct Deposit module.. I think it also could be adapted to create a module to capture the PO number at the time of order placement..

Okay.. so I take ALL of what I said previously back..

I had a SMALL amount of free time and I looked at the two P.O. modules in the free downloads. They BOTH capture the P.O. at the time of order placement..

I PERSONALLY would NOT use this one: purchase order module by knuckle . This module makes WAY to many changes (unecessarily IMHO) to core files JUST to capture a P.O. number at the time of order placement.

What I am CURIOUS about is WHY if you installed the other module Purchase Order Basic it DIDN'T work for you.. Based on the support thread, and module description it certainly DOES capture the P.O. number at the time of order placement.. (your BASIC requirement)

Which goes back to what I've been saying in my last few posts.. If ONLY you'd provide some DETAILS on what's happening/going wrong, then the community MIGHT be able to HELP you..

Your question are not related to the discussion here..

jimmie:

i wanted a spot that if a customer wants to use their own shipping account they can enter desired carrier and account number

You should probably start a NEW thread to ask this question since the purpose of this one is to help linuxguy2 work out a P.O. solution..
