Re: No images after fresh installation on bravenet server

Your site won't load here. Is it just images which don't display, or all styling?

Re: No images after fresh installation on bravenet server

Able to get to the site after replacing two hyphens with periods was able to access the site. Came across same issue of not seeing css formatting nor any images.

Was able to get to a specific image via piecing uris together: ie: http://www-procurement.designteamnigeria-com/dstore/includes/templates/classic/images/logo.gif

Re: No images after fresh installation on bravenet server

 1. Was SSL was enabled during installation?
 2. Did you allow the installer to create the configure.php files?
 3. Any host configured redirection / rewrite in cPanel (or other management panel)?
 4. Is your site trying to use a CDN for static resources? Have you excluded "/dstore" if this is configured?
 5. Do you have a SSL certificate for your domain? Has the hosting provider installed the certificate?

I ask because it appears some of the links are being generated starting with "https://" and your site is not accessible via "https://". I am seeing a timeout which may indicate the webserver is not listening on port 443 (or is blocked by a firewall). If you plan to use SSL, you will want to talk to the hosting provider.

Can you post the contents of "/includes/configure.php" and "/admin/includes/configure.php". When providing the contents obscure DB_SERVER_USERNAME and DB_SERVER_PASSWORD. Please wrap the file content in code tags (clicking the # when replying / posting will add these). An example of how this will look before posting: ```
contents of the file
Can you post a copy of the output from [phpinfo()](http://www.phpinfofile.com/)? Again please wrap in code tags (```
contents of the file
```).
Can you post the contents of "/.htaccess" and "/dstore/.htaccess" (or indicate if not present)? Again please wrap in code tags (```
contents of the file
```).

Re: No images after fresh installation on bravenet server

go into your configure.php file and for the following defines remove the www. on the beginning

define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://www.procurement.designteamnigeria.com');
define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://www.procurement.designteamnigeria.com');

so that it just reads

define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://procurement.designteamnigeria.com');
define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://procurement.designteamnigeria.com');

if I strip the url down to that the page loads immediately with all styling intact. any further clicks on the site add the www. back and never load correctly.

Did you allow the installer to create the configure.php files? Y**es ( I removed dist_ from the original one)**
Any host configured redirection / rewrite in cPanel (or other management panel)? - No idea what this is

Is your site trying to use a CDN for static resources? Have you excluded "/dstore" if this is configured?

Do you have a SSL certificate for your domain? Has the hosting provider installed the certificate? SSL is set to false

Re: No images after fresh installation on bravenet server

Based upon what I am seeing in the HTML source, I would guess your hosting provider uses a very non-standard Apache + PHP setup / configuration (possibly with a proxy involved). Most likely this is the cause of the issue you are reporting (in particular causing protocol detection to fail).

If my guess is correct, you may need to contact the hosting provider to have them "correct" the non-standard setup / configuration (or move to a different hosting provider). But first, I'd like to verify if the "guess" is wrong or correct.

There are instructions for creating a file to provide the output from phpinfo() and display the information in a web browser on this webpage. The output will contain lots of additional information about your hosting provider's PHP configuration (and help us better advise you).

I am specifically looking for the information contained in the "PHP Variables" section, although the rest of the output will also be valuable.

The glass is not half full. The glass is not half empty. The glass is simply too big!

Re: No images after fresh installation on bravenet server

My biggest concern is still the current server not allowing SSL / TLS access to the site via HTTPS. To protect your customers HTTPS should be enabled on any server you plan to host an e-commerce platform. Do you need to just purchase an SSL Certificate and they will setup the server with the certificate for SSL? Do they provide an alternative URL for HTTPS (such as ssl.example.com/~username)? Do you need to pay for a higher tier of hosting?

Looking through your "PHP Variables", I have confirmed my suspicions. Your hosting provider is proxying HTTP requests (most likely with Apache mod_proxy). This is unusual (but not unheard of). Most of the time when we see a proxy, it was added to support "https://ssl.example.com/~username" (external to hosting provider) => "http://real.example.com/" (internal to hosting provider). Because proxying HTTPS => HTTP is more common than proxying HTTP => HTTP, Zen Cart currently detects this proxy setup as SSL (to provide compatibility with the majority of hosting environments).

Long term, you need to answer the SSL / TLS questions above (at least for yourself) and decide if the hosting provider is a good fit for your needs... Depending on the answers and technical information only the hosting provider is privy to (regarding their hosting environment's configuration)... You may run into additional issues once you try to add SSL / TLS (HTTPS) support for your site (including more changes to the "configure.php" files and possibly alteration of a core Zen Cart file). Yes with enough information and the support of the hosting provider workarounds are possible... but it may be more cost effective to chose another hosting provider (or hosting plan) to start with (unless you feel comfortable troubleshooting, working with the hosting provider, and creating workarounds specific to the hosting provider).

A temporary workaround for now (NO HTTPS SUPPORTED), may be to just edit HTTPS_SERVER in both of the configure.php files to point to a dummy HTTPS_SERVER such as "ssl.procurement.designteamnigeria.com". This should result in Zen Cart no longer detecting the current "proxy" as an SSL request. This is not recommended for a production e-commerce website and failing to use HTTPS may violate the law in some countries.

 define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://ssl.procurement.designteamnigeria.com');

The glass is not half full. The glass is not half empty. The glass is simply too big!
Where are the Zen Cart Debug Logs? Where are the HTTP 500 / Server Error Logs?

Re: No images after fresh installation on bravenet server

Hello Ihungil,

Thanks you for your suggestion. The SSL certificate was the culprit. Using the dummy ssl.xxxx .com splve the issuesd.

I have contacted my hosting company, at the moment they do not support ssl or HTTPS.

Godaddy for hosting should be okay.

I have been really Zenned.

Thank you all for your contributions

Hi everyone,
HAve the same issue with my server at EUKHosting. Strange thing is..they do support ssl but, at the moment, I do not have ssl enabled as I am just trialling the shop cart. However, I also do not have ssl switched on in the config.php files so, should this behaviour still exist? If I simply remove the s from https in the config.php files then evrrything works.
My hosts are denying any responsibility for the moment and simply suggest I carry on with this "workaround" until such times as I purchase an ssl certificate. But will this work? That is the big question.

Anyway, thanks for this solution, I was driving myself potty trying to get the pictures to appear! Was obviously blaming myslef and my admin skills :)

From where was the s removed? Based on SSL not being enabled, the HTTPS_SERVER address should be completely ignored by the software and therefore not cause any issues, and further even with SSL enabled, the cart automatically switches to SSL as necessary (again default install) for sensitive areas.

Generally, just making sure that people are not going to run around and unnecessarily remove the s from https everywhere they see it, otherwise when/if they do get a SSL certificate and try to apply it, they will have to go find the right place(s) to put it back as designed. :/

I looked at the information supplied here which suggested putting in a false ssl link. Working on that information I opened the includes/config.php and, in the first section where you have to fill in the path/s to your shopping cart is changed the https://path.to.cart to http://path.to.cart.
The latest version of ZenCart now no longer has this info included in the admin/includes/config.php

This has the effect of resolving the problem however, my hosts are denying that there is any issue with their server setup and suggest I purchase an ssl certificate. However, at present I have ssl switched off in the config file so, I am assuming, this should not be an issue? I just don't want to be using an insecure site when I do purchase ssl which I obviously will before going live. So, how best to approach this without appearing foolish :)
Here is their latest response, they are starting to get a little shirty now :smile:

Hello James,

I am afraid to say that as I have check and found that all the settings and services at server end are up and working fine and there is no issue at server end.

I will suggest you to please purchase a SSL certificate or use http only instead of https in configuration.php file

Regards,

So, first of all the detail that I was describing still remains absent. The includes/configure.php, based on not having a SSL available should begin something like:
Once you obtain a SSL and get it installed, do nothing with the includes/configure.php until you test that the SSL is properly installed. A test would be to attempt to access any page on the site using https:.
Be advised though that navigation to any page after that using a link from the site will go to http:.

If you or the template author have properly coded additional things like images correctly, then there should not be any https/http errors (mixed content).

Once you have determine that the SSL is properly installed, THEN update the includes/configure.php and the admin/includes/configure.php. This process will prevent customers from seeing page load errors and will allow you to continue to work and access the site without potential problems with the SSL.

With regards to the "insecurity" of the site, I somewhat leave that discussion for others as it is addressed multiple times through the forum, but yes it is generally suggested that a site operate using a SSL, and other organizations such as Google encourage the entire site to use https: (this way there is no question of whether the "correct" page used SSL or transferred information without the added protection of a SSL.)

Hello again, thanks for helping out.
First off, we seem to be getting side tracked...I think! The issue I am seeing, is the original one from the thread, that, with a fresh install, zencart displays without any pictures or styling. The ssl issue is a side one which spins off from this.

The config.php example you give above is correct as per my own BUT if I have line 6 as <https://something> then the site displays with the errors of no pictures and no styles and I think that is what we decided was incorrect behavior which is attributed to something the hosts are doing with their LAMP installation?
If I then change https:// to http:// in the file above, all is well except...I don't feel that it can possibly be secure if the hosts are fudging their software setup?
Does it matter, or is it significatnt, that I am on a shared server at present? There is an ssl certificate available but it comes back with the hosts name on it rather than my site! I found this out when trying to set up ssl mail on my domain name. I have to set up ssl mail using the hosts server name to fix that.

I really don't mind that this is the case as long as, when I do purchase an ssl cert, everything will work properly. I wondered what you would ask your host if this were your issue :)
They seem to be playing dumb at present and I am well aware that they are not since it was originally them who changed the https:// section of my config files last year. They didn't tell me what they had done but it did fix the site so I was happy.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing :)

Thanks again

If by line 6 you mean:

define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://localhost');

Then, I would definitely do a review of the code used on your site, because with ENABLE_SSL as false, this line/definition should not even be considered or used throughout the site. Swapping to the default ZC template should show you how the pages should be accessed (all http:), and it is likely/possible that the current template does something to always use https:...

If though, you mean:

define('HTTP_SERVER', 'https://localhost');

Then, well, that's somewhat on the install/settings that were applied... I am aware that the zc_install software does do a look at the server to identify the presence of a SSL, but am not (yet) intimately familiar with all of the checks it does and how it uses the data that it collects. I have seen that it can have an effect on the admin side, but the admin side uses a single server name which could be setup to use your shared SSL (albeit a different URL would be presented).

There are issues related to being on a shared server, but it should not change the fact of having/not having images display. Attempting to access a site using https: when that site is not setup to work with https: well, will provide an incorrect result. As said, you could use the shared SSL, though you lose your "uniqueness" by the URL showing your host's name and location rather than that of your own site. More of a PR issue than a technical issue. When you purchase a SSL certificate, things should be setup for you such that your URL will be presented and functional with https:.
