why my customers are still seeing the old layout or information that I have updated o

hello

why my customers are still seeing the old layout or information that I have updated over a week.

I find a problem that my customers are still browsing my old version of my website,even though I have updated
certain layout for more than one week

for example

one week ago,I installed "column layout_grid" plugin and set the layout to show 3 products a row,but my customers are still seeing
one products per row,

what should I do ?

figure out a way to auto-clear the browse cache for or by zen-cart websites?

thanks

Are you still seeing 1 product per row when you are navigating as a customer?

One reason others may still see one product per row can be dependent on how far zoomed/wide their screen is (resolution) if I remember correctly. It would also help if you offered a link to your site so that the potential cause could be seen.

Was any css changed/required as a part of the installation? Server settings that cache css could be a reason why css may not be updated for others, but I don't remember that being required for that plugin/modification.

Ask them to hold the ctrl key and zoom out with their mouse, does it change to two or more items per row?

Re: why my customers are still seeing the old layout or information that I have updated o

Umm, thought the edify template was already responsive (capable of adjusting display of items based on screen resolution, resizing of browser window, mobile friendly, etc...) it would somewhat surprise me if the plugin even needed to be installed to begin with.

Unfortunately for me at the moment I'm on a mobile, so I generally only see a single column of product. Perhaps there are settings in the configuration->listing layout (or similar configuration menu option with the word layout in it) that need to still be modified (if issue is seen on desktops)?

Re: why my customers are still seeing the old layout or information that I have updated o

thanks mc12345678 for reply.

1)yes,if browse by PC ,the default layout is that the template only displays one product per row at the categories page,I feel it is not good ,so I decided to installed "column layout_grid" plugin and change or add some css code to make it show 3 products per row and at the same time it only show 1 product per row at mobiles.

  1. after clear the browser's cache ,I can see the effect ,and it works well.but if my customers donot clear their browser's cache,they are still seeing the old layout.

how to let my customers see the latest layout without deliberately clear their browser's cache?

what should I do ?

thanks

With that information, then it's pretty obvious that new customers will see the site as desired because there would be no cached information from which they would pull. For existing customers, eventually the "system" will pull new data, but there are some things that can be done, though I would suggest doing an Internet search on something like 'force client cache reset'.

Unless something has been done for your specific site, then this is going to primarily be dependent on your host's setup. There has been a lurker that likely could further explain, but maybe he's interested in other things today. :P

Css is considered one of those "doesn't change often" things and so is typically cached to speed up load times. Caching occurs on the host, access points between the host and the client, and at the client themselves, so there are a number of factors involved.

I did the search before posting to be sure at least something viable would appear, but there are multiple ways to force the refresh. Perhaps the most common (though implemented in multiple different ways) is to rename the css file such that it still follows the load name convention expected but is different than the file that previously existed (and would no longer exist upon renaming).

I've never been on this site until this moment so nothing in my own cache. The products are showing singly in rows on my 27" monitor.

Re: why my customers are still seeing the old layout or information that I have updated o

ok,I figure out a way to solve it,every time you change your css,do the following thing together.

public_html/includes/templates/yourtemplate/common/html_header.php

change

<link href="<?php echo $template->get_template_dir('',DIR_WS_TEMPLATE, $current_page_base,'css').'/templatecss.css'?>" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />

to

<link href="<?php echo $template->get_template_dir('',DIR_WS_TEMPLATE, $current_page_base,'css').'/templatecss.css?v=1222'?>" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />

yes ,add ?v=1222 every time you change ,change the number.

"add ?v=1222 every time you change ,change the number." you donot need to change the number everytime. it works

by the way ,I suggest to delete it after all the websites's layout modification has been done.

Re: why my customers are still seeing the old layout or information that I have updated o

it works well on my computer and many other computers ,but one of my friends still see the older layout. I am feel so upset now .

so tried to add some codes to includes/templates/yourtemplate/common/html_header.php

          <meta   http-equiv="Expires"   CONTENT="0">
          <meta   http-equiv="Cache-Control"   CONTENT="no-cache">
          <meta   http-equiv="Pragma"   CONTENT="no-cache">

still waiting for her check.

Re: why my customers are still seeing the old layout or information that I have updated o

the one above does not work

the following one does work!! and I have double tested

public_html/includes/templates/yourtemplate/common/html_header.php

under
require($template->get_template_dir('tpl_edify_custom_css.php',DIR_WS_TEMPLATE, $current_page_base,'common'). '/tpl_edify_custom_css.php');

add

header("Cache-Control: no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate"); // HTTP 1.1.
header("Pragma: no-cache"); // HTTP 1.0.
header("Expires: 0"); // Proxies.
