Attribute working off regular price not sale price

So I have an attribute if you add cases to an order it adds a $1 + percentage for cost and shipping price change... the problem is, it's adding it based on the NORMAL price, and not the SALE price I have it set to... how do I fix that ?

Can you explain this situation further? For some reason I'm not understanding what is happening, how it is desired to be different, and what is expected... also where these incorrect results have been seen.

Re: Attribute working off regular price not sale price

Sure, so lets say I'm selling an apple for $150 and it's on sale for $50.
If you add an apple case it should add 10% to the price... but instead of adding $5 it's adding $15
So it's adding the attribute based on the regular price and not the sale price.

So there are some known issues with display of information related to sales and specials, but want to get through the first part and can then advise on correcting the display information.

The 10% is part of the sale/special correct or what applies the 10%? In the attributes controller, what are the radio button selections for the atribute? (the apple case, these include display only, default, etc...)

Then is the pricing issue only seen on the product information page or are things correct once added to the cart and/or progressing through check-out?

Re: Attribute working off regular price not sale price

So I have an item it's $50
Adding cases should add $5.31

But the subtotal shows as $58.13
And then checking out with free shipping shows the total as: $62.83

Re: Attribute working off regular price not sale price

If I delete the special pricing and checkout normal, it comes up as $50 + $8.50 for cases
Subtotals at $58.50 and works.

Re: Attribute working off regular price not sale price

Still need to know the settings for the attributes of the "problem" product as requested previously. Specifically within the attributes controller. Ideally all aspects of the attribute (pricing and other information in the lower portion of the screen when editing the attribute data.)

Re: Attribute working off regular price not sale price

In the attribute controller there is the option "Apply Discounts Used by Product Special/Sale:"... is this on?

It is marked yes.

Include in Base Price
When Priced by Attributes
is also set to yes.

Could you please describe your sale configuration?
Need everything about it, such as is it actually a sale and not a special? It doesn't have both a special and a sale applied does it? Walk me through the configuration.

This part is to be able to advise you specifically where a change is expected and to independently verify it works.

Re: Attribute working off regular price not sale price

The item is set to $80
Special: set to $50

Attribute adds $5.31

The subtotal shows as $58.13
Shipping: $7

Your Total
$62.63Sub-Total:
$7.00Zone Rates (Shipping to US (1 x 3.00lb(s))):
$69.63Total:

So now it's adding shipping twice?

The attribute is:

Price: 1
Weight: +1
Order: 1
One Time: 0.0000
Price Factor: 1.1500 Offset: 1.0000
One Time Factor: 0.0000 Offset: 0.0000

Re: Attribute working off regular price not sale price

I noted that when I remove the special, the attribute adds 8.50 and 5.31 when the special is on, but the special is the same price so shouldn't the attribute add the same?

jmberman:

I noted that when I remove the special, the attribute adds 8.50 and 5.31 when the special is on, but the special is the same price so shouldn't the attribute add the same?
So it's important to understand how the attribute's price is determined based on the settings displayed above. I don't know what caused the shipping to be added differently now as compared to before as nothing seems to be described as a cause for that effect.

Not sure where to start, though I guess with the attribute as priced without a special.

First thing to say is that the prices observed are correct for the configuration expressed. They may not be what is desired, but there is no miscalculation occurring with the software.

It appears that in this testing, that conditions have been changed without statement. Specifically the 8.50 for the attribute is where the price of the product has been changed to 50 and the special removed.

So it looks like for the paragraph quoted here, the conditions are this:
Product is not priced by attribute.
Product price is 50 or if on special that product price is 80 and special is 50.
The attribute has a cost of 1.
The attribute has a price factor of 1.15.
The attribute has a price factor offset of 1.00
The attribute is marked as apply discounts used by product special/sale.

So for the case of no special:
First there is the price of the attribute: 1.
Then there is the price of the attribute as determined by the price factor and it's offset: that price contribution is calculated by effectively a percentage of the base price. In this case 50 * (1.15-1) = 7.50.
The total price of the attribute is then 1 + 7.50.

With the special applied, remember the base price is/was 80 and the special price is 50.

So, now, because the attribute is marked to apply the discount, the application of that discount is effectively at least for a special determined by multiplying the attribute value/price by the new price divided by the old price.
So the price of the attribute being 1 originally is now 1*50/80 = 0.625 (a 37.5 percent discount)
Now the complicated part:
Again the offset calculation looks at the base price and provides a "percentage" of that. The base price is now 50 and the attribute price calculated from that is: 50 * (1.15 - 1.00) = 50 * 0.15 = 7.5
However, the price of the attribute is to be effected by the discount, which means again the attribute's price is to be reduced from what the product price was originally to what it has become. This means that the contribution by the attribute being based on the base price is: 7.50 * 50 / 80 = 4.6875.

The attribute's price is then determined by the sum of the two and therefore is: 0.625 + 4.6875 = 5.3125. In a two decimal system this equates to 5.31 which is the result you have shown.

So, if you're expectation was to always charge 8.50, then several things need to change, mainly that the attribute price would be fixed, not based on the product price and not dependent on any discount. If your desire is always to charge 0.15 of the current price and add 1 then disable the attribute apply discounts used by product special/sale option in the attributes controller.

But hopefully that makes more sense now. In the future, when making changes to run a test, could you maybe be a little clearer, by say providing all of the details somewhat like I summarized above? Or at least identify what field(s) were changed from one test to another? Took a bit to figure out how the above results came to be, but was able to figure that part out in the end.

Re: Attribute working off regular price not sale price

Well I set Price: 0
Weight: 0
Price Factor: 1.1500
Offset: 1.0000

Apply Discounts Used
by Product Special/Sale: No

Include in Base Price
When Priced by Attributes: Yes

So now when I test check out it says $50 + $7.50 which is fine
Shipping: $7

but then the subtotal says: $62 + 7

So I'm still very much confused.

I'd love to get it fixed first, not understand the innerworkings of the system. We can look at that AFTER I get it working so I don't have to worry about it.
See what I mean ?

Re: Attribute working off regular price not sale price

If I remove the Price: 1
The attribute $ disappears... Why would the $ being added by the attribute text vanish from my listing? See, more confusing, not less....

But adds $7.50 to the cart, but then the subtotal is $62 and not $57.50 as it should be, and I did as you said, which is to

Apply Discounts Used

I apologize for my annoyance, I just want to get it fixed, not understand every inner working, that can come later... fixing it is my main focus here.

Re: Attribute working off regular price not sale price

I didn't test/run through the effects of having the price factor with a weight, but what happens if you remove the weight from the attribute (set it to 0).

Also trying to understand what changed to cause the additional shipping charge because that didn't seem to clearly be an issue until a few posts ago.

Re: Attribute working off regular price not sale price

I appreciate your patience, thank you for that.

So right now the listing is: Starting at: $80.00 special priced to: $50.00
Save: 38% off

Attribute adds: +$5.31

When set to:

Price: 1
Weight: 0
Price factor: 1.1500
Apply Discounts Used
by Product Special/Sale: Yes

Include in Base Price
When Priced by Attributes: Yes

Checking out this way of course creates a subtotal of $58.13
Add Shipping $7
New subtotal: $62.63 + 7 = $69.63

Now, if I set these to no:

Apply Discounts Used
by Product Special/Sale: No

Include in Base Price
When Priced by Attributes: No

The listing attribute now shows add $1
Subtotal: $58.50
Add Shipping $7
New subtotal: $63 + 7 = $70

In the end I need the listing add attribute to show the correct amount being added, I think it's saying $1 based off that Price: 1, right?
How do I get it to show the full amount in the listing?

THANK YOU!

Re: Attribute working off regular price not sale price

I'm actually surprised that only 1 shows in that configuration instead of the 7.50, but all of the background math is relatively complex. I'm still now also trying to figure about the double shipping fee which appears to be unaffected by the attribute configuration and/or order total related settings/files (don't know if there perhaps are two of a file where one was attempted to be renamed to remove from processing but still has an ending extension of .php).
