Need some help

I there,

I hired a designer last year to re-vamp my website, she did about 90% of the work and then stopped communicating with me. I still have things broken that need to be fixed.

My pressing issue currently is that one of the modules that she installed is interfering with my ability to see the partial credit card number on the website so I can process the transaction. Instead I get an error message. Like this:

Customer Address:
Removed for privacy
Tawatinaw, Alberta T0G 2E0
Canada

Telephone Number: removed for privacy
E-Mail Address: linda.d######################
Entered Referral:
WARNING: An Error occurred, please refresh the page and try again.

^^^^ this is where I usually can collect the first and last 4 digits of the CC# and the expiry date so I can run the credit card.

My URL: https://www.creativewanderings.ca/
v1.5.5e

Can someone tell me where to get a list of plug ins?

From what I understand the hiccup may be coming from a "how did you hear about us" module that was installed. Can someone point me to the right direction to either a designer that can help me, or show me where I can read about how to uninstall this.

Keep in mind, I hired someone because I am not an expert and was counting on that person to actually complete the job.

Thanks for any help you can give.

hi jennifer,
when you see the warning above, that means there was an error that prevented your php script from running. in general, ZC will generate a log file, and that log file will have details about the error, with enough information for someone to fix the problem. without the error log, we are all just taking wild guesses.

in addition, allow me to throw my opinion in about credit card processing. from what it sounds like, you are running the card after the receipt of the order. which i think is fine. however, if you just had work done on the site, and you did not tokenize your credit card number, eliminating the need for what you are doing above, you are running in the dark ages. and your developer did you a major disservice.

the idea that you need to reconstruct a credit card number in order to run it is an antiquated process that truly should be replaced. for what i am guessing is your system, i think the process should go something like this: a customer enters an order with a credit card number; your system then submits that cc number and other info to your processing gateway; the gateway returns a token which you now can store; when you want to charge the card, you say take $50 using this token. this is the modern, supposedly secure way of charging credit card numbers. i would greatly encourage you to look into updating your system to do something resembling that process.

best.

Re: Need some help

Yep, I'd say that Jennifer has Ceon's credit card mod going. Many did that to avoid the cost of a merchant account fee for online and inline.

Not really needed these days.

Get us the debug info and think about PayPal, Square, or both. Lots cheaper than paying for a merchant account and not a violation of PCI like Ceon's mod.

We can walk you through it.

I honestly do not know what this means, besides the fact that she didn't improve anything but the physical look of my site. :( Ugh.

You'll pay $349 ($300 if you can get them to waive setup) your first year in setup and monthly fees. 2.9% and $0.30 per transaction.
Square is close on % and $0.15 per transaction.
Signing up for Square also gives funds towards Zen Cart.

No monthly fees are great for beginning sites.

Re: Need some help

Yes, Square or Paypal are also great choices. But some people don't like Paypal, and the Square install might be difficult for a newcomer (although Jennifer could easily hire someone to do this for her).
