Missing image to create a debug log?

I think that a product that has an image defined but is missing, should use the image defined for a product with no image defined, as a more professional fallback.
This would avoid image handlers and lightboxes having to deal with the problem.

Additionally and as an Admin-Configuration-Images option, it could also create a log message about the missing defined image.
At the moment there is no mechanism for that, only a plugin to check for missing images.

That's a mod. I'd like to see it built in (maybe integrated into Tools->System Inspection from v2, backported to 1.5).

That's why I would have it as an admin option, for example right now I am working on a duplicate site but don't need to duplicate the huge images folder.

But a missing defined image is an error and personally I want to know about errors immediately, so I have done it for my production site.

If I get a pile of logs, that won't break the bank, it gets fixed quickly as me or someone else notices the flag for the debug logs in the admin and I don't have to remember to run my own image checker: I have enough things to remember.
This makes it one less.

as for the image checker mod, that needs someone to expand it so it checks the images folder to identify orphan images that are not used anywhere. Then it will be a more complete tool for the admin.

Something really needs to be done about missing images.... some of my images are not missing but for some reason have gotten corrupted and no longer work and it would be great to identify them without looking through every page .... which would take a very long time. The missing image mod would not work on my site.

Does that mean it DID not work when you tried it, or it is just not going to work on your site for some reason....?

If you think you have corrupted images, you could download the whole images folder, and use Irfanview to view all the files and subfolders as thumbnails to quickly verify which are broken. No doubt there is a better way but that's the first that springs to mind.

Thank you! I did post on the thread when it happened. It just timed out.... I guess. I have about 7000 active skus. I do know about looking through the directory but it is also time consuming.
