configure.php file(s)

Here's a 1 AM thought without any coffee since lunch...

Why are there 2 configure.php files? What's the purpose? Why not combine includes/defined_paths.php and admin/includes/defined_paths.php into one file (drop the latter), add the 3 different lines from admin/includes/configure.php to includes/configure.php and change admin/application_top.php to include those files from the (now) centralized files? I just tested it real quick on 1.5.6c and it seems to be working, although I might be missing the forest for the trees... What's the downside of that approach? Or to make it more interesting - what could possibly go wrong?

Re: configure.php file(s)

2.0 eliminated the admin side configure.php.
This is under consideration for 1.x. https://github.com/zencart/zencart/issues/2645
