Shopify, Square, Paypal Transaction Fees

Short rant with a small online store one mistake and one bad apple and you are out $$$$.

With the payment processors Shopify, Square, Paypal NOT refunding the 2.99% processing or > transaction fee. And more are changing to this.

I was looking for a way to limit the stores liabilities and found "Maximum Amount Allowed In Shopping Cart" plug in by schoolboy.

Basically this just sets a threshold on the money that I am willing to lose per order.

When total cart value is greater then $$$$ stop the customer from checking out.

This is the default value "Your order exceeds a value of $$$$$ so please contact us for assistance."

I changed it to: "Congratulations your purchases have awarded you vip customer service please contact us for better pricing."

Store is running 1.5.7d on php 7.4.8

Only changed one line of code in class.maximum_order_amount.php

 line 22 function maximum_order_amount() to function __construct()

Thanks for sharing. Another option would be to change your terms and conditions to note that any refund issued would be reduced by processing fees. Then as long as you initiate the refund (rather than them initiating a chargeback), you wouldn't be out the fees.

Yes that has been done and also setup a restocking fee to help to recoup costs.

Mainly set this up to stop someone placing an large order and then calling to cancel the order before shipping.

The value I am using is double the average store sale per order.

OK keep us posted on how this works out.

BTW Paypal fees are no longer 2.90% + 30c / Now they are 3.49% + 49c (so it's even worst).

As soon as they changed that policy (then later Stripe), I changed it on my terms like Scott mentioned here.

Yes it is getting to a point where selling a high priced item can cause high blood pressure.

So far only one customer triggered the limit that I placed on orders.

It turned out the customer called and placed the order over the phone. :)
