Admin Add Customer

This is a restart of the *add_customeers_from_admin *originally by garden and upgraded by lat9 for Zen Cart versions through 1.5.7.

Core changes in Zen Cart versions 2.0.0 and 2.2.0 made the 1.5.7 version incompatible.

This is a total rebuild of that mod. It's now fully encapsulated and compatible with Zen Cart 2.0.0 through the test files of 3.0.0. It is compatible with PHP versions 8.0 through 8.5 as well.

It not only allows the admin to create a user, but also allows:

  • The ability to gather user information at various events
  • The submission of a CSV file to bulk load multiple users at once
  • The uploading of an e-mail header image for use in the welcome e-mail
  • A blank CSV template is available for download along with ready-to-use PDF files for user sign-up at events.
  • The ability to resend the welcome e-mail to those who have not completed the requirements to shop your site.
  • As a bonus, you can also reset their password when resending the welcome e-mail.
  • Rather than let the database fill up, you have the option to delete all users registered before a selected date who have not completed registration/validation.
  • The single entry form only needs the customer's First Name, Last Name, and E-Mail address to add them to the site. If you have their phone number, you can add it. Folks at an event may be hesitant to give out their Phone Number. It's not asked for at event signups, but is optional as a single entry.
  • The single entry can also be used to assign Group Pricing and Wholesale status. Coupons must be assigned elsewhere.
  • When contacting or contacted by possible Wholesale customers, the store owner can quickly set the customer to whatever Wholesale level exists in the core.
  • The welcome e-mail includes a notice of Wholesale or Group Pricing, and Wholesale add-ons are automatically reminded by Zen Cart of their wholesale status after completing their registration/validation.
  • Optionally, there is an available input for the Wholesale customer's Tax/Resale Number.

The complete rewrite, zc_plugin adaptation, and addition of extra features meant a total renaming and starting with version 1.0.0.

Enhancements to this mod are already identified on GitHub, but may be withheld until the release of ZC 3.0.0.

Check back soon for a download thread and a GitHub location for the files.

Re: Admin Add Customer

Glad to see you've revived it and added some new features (seems like more specific and targeted additions), but not sure if you noticed just a few threads below this one... https://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php/199629-Add-Customers-from-Admin-2-0-%281-5-0-and-later%29-Support-Thread?p=1410681#post1410681

Either way, really glad to see it brought back as an alternative version!

Re: Admin Add Customer

Murphy was an optimist:(

My first submission had a glitch in a PDF filename.

Until the download is updated, you can simply load the files, then go to the PDF folder and change the filename starting with sign_up_ to signup_

GitHub already has the corrected files. It's a different link from above. https://github.com/dbltoe/admin_add_customer/releases/tag/admin_add_customer-1.0.0

Re: Admin Add Customer

Be aware that if you already have installed Balihr's version, the admin page will be replaced by this plugin one. They both register the same admin page name.

Re: Admin Add Customer

Sorry if I created a problem here.

Before looking at bringing this back, my research did not show any options other than the lat9 mod.

I'm sure balihr did a great workup of the mod, but apparently never submitted it to Plugins, nor is it mentioned when following his sig to his site. I have not had a chance to load it and see the differences. I just built this to match the composite needs of my current clients.

I'm working on another big customer need now and will do a more thorough search on it.

Re: Admin Add Customer

I don't think there is much of a problem. I have a test cart where i put any plugin I want to test and I found out I could not test these 2 together. When you know it, there is no problem anymore.
Anyway nobody is going to use them together.

Re: Admin Add Customer

To ameliorate the confusion (or perhaps add to it), there's a new help page about creating customer accounts:

I had to look that one up. :P

The major difference is that balihr's mod requires you to know all the customer's data.

This one is more for collecting just enough to get the ball rolling. It also means that the customer is responsible for any errors in entry other than the First Name, Last Name, and E-Mail.

Just a tiny bit more info along with this one.

Re: Admin Add Customer

It's not provided with the Plugin or the GitHub release, but a comparison can be found at:

https://github.com/dbltoe/admin_add_customer/blob/main/comparison.md

Fully my bad on not finding balihr's version but I probably would have done this version anyway to fit customers' needs.

Re: Admin Add Customer

I hadn’t planned on keeping it there since it gets wrapped into the releases.
Will come up with someway.

While we’re at it, I’m almost done with multi ship.

Anybody working on that one?

Re: Admin Add Customer

LOL, sorry for the mess I seem to have caused. Yeah, I didn't submit to Plugins for 2 reasons:

  • it requires documentation and I just can't afford the time to do it
  • a wiser member here told me it's best to go with Github first, iron out the first issues that are reported there, and THEN submit to Plugins so we don't end up with v1.0.1, v1.0.2... v1.0.15 etc. (@torvista looking at you)

You'd be surprised to know how much good stuff is sitting on my computer that I am willing to share, but don't have the time to write the docs...

One thing I would point out in the Docs is a note for the "simplest" way - customer doesn't know the password and you need to manually send the password you just created for them, or point out they will need to use the "reset password" if they ever want to log in.

As for Multi-Ship - LOL, this thread is a great place to be asking this question! Almost as good as this one: https://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php/211914-Multiple-Ship-To-Addresses-Support-Thread :P Just joking, hope you don't mind.

I'll have to look at that again, but each entry gets sent a password. And, it can be resent or reset at any time before they complete their registration.

With this mod, single or multiple additions are automatically sent an email with their password and instructions on what (if any) pricing programs they are a part of.

There is also the option to resend the Welcome email and the option to include a new password or not.

Once the customer has completed registration, their name no longer appears in the Resend the Welcome E-Mail's Choose a Customer download.

This allows the admin to review it later and decide whether they want to send the email again.

Re: Admin Add Customer

ZenCart v2.1.0
PHP Version: 8.3.31 (Zend: 4.3.31)

I attempted to install this mod into my store, but it is not showing up in the Customers menu to be able to access it... Any ideas on why, and how to correct?

Re: Admin Add Customer

Following the standard zc_plugin installation methods of loading the zc_plugins directory to the root, going to Modules > Plugin Manager in the admin, and completing the two clicks needed to install the mod should result in the last option under Customers being Add Customer(s).

Looking at YOURSITE/zc plugins/, do you see a folder named AdminAddUser?

If not, the files are not in the correct location.

Yeah, it's there.

I first installed the version from the zencart plugins, and it didn't show up. So I then jumped into this forum and noticed the notes about the github version, so I uninstalled and deleted that one and installed the github one. Still didn't show. That was when I made the post yesterday.

Re: Admin Add Customer

Sorry, out-of-town family kept me hopping.

If you go to YOUR_ADMIN > Modules > Plugin Manager, you should see Admin Admin Add Customer in the top line under Installed (Enabled). And, on the right, you should see the Disable and Un-Install buttons. See the image.

If it is not at the top of the Installed group, look to see if it exists under the Not Installed group.

If it is in the first group with the correct buttons shown, you should have the Add Customer(s) menu option (usually at the bottom).

If it is in the second group, click Install twice to load the files.

If it is not in either group, the files are in the wrong location on your server.

Re: Admin Add Customer

I've just submitted version 1.1.0 to the Plugins.

The installation section was a little ambiguous and could cause problems by implying that the zc_plugins folder should be installed in the zc_plugins directory instead of the root of the store.

There was a bad link in the readme.html pointing to a Zen Cart Docs page incorrectly.

Most important is that the pluginID has changed, and without that fix, the mod would not be able to check for and announce new versions being available.

Until the update is approved, the download is available on GitHub.

There should be no need to uninstall/disable 1.0.0 before uploading the new files. Once uploaded, you should see the standard information about upgrading and cleaning up (optional).

I'm trying to provide more on-site options for the store owner without them having to leave the Admin. That's why you will see some new buttons and links when viewing the mod's info in the Plugin Manager.

I get it, family first!

Yeah, it wasn't letting me add images either. I tried adding image of my plugins list to the last post.
