Some feedback

When you click Login on mobile, the background turns black. Also, the hamburger menu is still positioned toward the center of the screen, and I think it should be moved all the way to the left.

If you need any help with either of these issues, just let me know.

And remember, none of this feedback is meant to be negative—it’s all constructive criticism to help make Zen Cart even better. You’re doing a great job, Wilt, so keep it up!

Once most of these issues are cleaned up, I’d really like to show my group of programmers how far Zen Cart has come. Right now, though, with the number of issues that still need to be addressed, I don’t feel like I can present it to them yet. I’d rather wait until things are a little more polished so they can really see the progress and improvements that have been made.

We’re getting there, and I’m looking forward to being able to show it off once these remaining issues are cleaned up.

Re: Some feedback

Thanks for the feedback.

Funnily eough was looking at the login page this morning. The issue withthe login page is that it was initially based off of Laralvel/Filament's own login page and wresting that into a modal meant some compromises around js/css isolation and flow. Working o a more native integration,

I'm sure I had tweaked the hamburger menu. Will revisit.

So the login/register flow has been updated, let me know if this fixes the issue

regarding the hamburger let me know the type of media it is not working for
Seems to be fine for mobile phone sizes

For say Ipad type sizes it does appear in a central position but wonder then if it should appear far left after the search/bell/avatar icons

Wilt

If you're not logged in, the hamburger menu is off-center.

Since you're using Flexbox, we can fix the positioning pretty easily. See Example Image 1 for what I mean and how it should be aligned.

@layer utilities {
  .relative {
    position: relative;
    order: 2;
}

than on tablet to align the button i would just do
@layer utilities {
  @media (min-width: 40rem) {
      gap: calc(var(--spacing) * 4);
      flex-grow: 1
}

the same concept for when you are loggedin in.

Wilt this is still not correct, Look at the css i gave you it should solve the problem. Also look at when your not log in the drop is not all the way to the right. You need to utilize your css 'order styles' since you already have it in a flex container.

The first screen shot i gave you is what is should look like

Re: Some feedback

I haven't decided if I like the arrangement of the icons in the header, but they should all behave the same.

The bell and account avatar menus both show on hover, the hamburger menu has to be clicked on.

I also don't understand the CTA "Get Started" button in the header. It seems very out of place when browsing the forums while NOT logged in.

So on the icons, I kind of agree here.
Mobile doesn’t really have a concept of hover so think for mobile they need to be click only
Testing using dev tools doesn’t always match the real world :)

As for the CTA, I think the idea here was to get people straight to downloading/installing

Re: Some feedback

Given that the design originates from me, I believe I should chime in and clarify the intention.

Yes, the CTA button is there for a reason, and a very deliberate UX reason: it is our primary conversion action.

As soon as viewport space allows, it becomes visible alongside the navigation because its job is to answer the visitor's main question: "What do I do next?". It guides the user straight into the onboarding/download funnel with a single tap. Also, you'll notice that it isn't shown to logged-in users - it is there specifically for new visitors, meaning optimized for conversion. I didn't take that into account on the demo site, but wilt recognized it and made sure it was done properly - fantastic catch!

If you look at almost any modern software landing page today, you'll notice the primary CTA button is always there alongside the menu. Shopify has "start for free", wordpress has "get wordpress", presta has "get started" etc etc.

Modernizing the website isn't just about picking a new color palette and adding some fancy boxes and shadows - it's about following established industry standards and matching user expectations. We shouldn't make potential users hunt through a slideout menu or scroll through pages trying to figure out how to get the software. It needs to be served on a silver platter so it can't be missed.

Gosh, I love how the modern times have made us all so lazy and easily distracted... We'll probably need flashing red arrows in a few years accompanied by audio "hey you! yes, you! click here to start! hellooooo"

Guys, what changed with the navigation? It seems to have gotten worse.

A few things need to be addressed:

  • Mobile: The navigation doesn’t look right. The icons should be properly centered.

  • Mobile & Tablet: The Get Started button is now missing and needs to be restored.

  • Desktop: The navigation should be centered. Like it was prior

I would go back to the original design and make the changes I mentioned. That would solve all your issues.

Please make sure you test the navigation thoroughly before pushing it live.

On mobile from 320px to 450px is where your mobile problem comes into play.

Just an idea of what I would make the mobile look like..... (see attach image)

You could also hide a few things and put it into the drop down. On small device... that's up to you though

I also notice the search bar is hidden on mobile. I would display that no reason to hide it.

Last thing if you notice on the attach image the search all forums button is being cut off on mobile devices. Just take out the white-space: no wrap so its responsive and display correctly

Re: Some feedback

@chadlly2003

I think it may be worth creating new threads for any issue in this thread that still need addressing

threads that have multiple issues are really difficult to track
