Download Order Status makes no sense

I have downloads (some PDFs, some MP3, some streaming audio) that are set to expire after 1 day or 2 downloads. Yet when I look orders that have been completed, on all of the downloads the flag is green indicating the item is Available. Two questions:

(1) Does a green flag (Available) mean that the customer continues to have access to the download? For obvious reasons, I don't want this to be the case.

(2) Shouldn't ZenCart automatically flip the flag the yellow (Expired) once the day and number counts have been exceeded?

(Sorry in advance if this has been posted elsewhere, I just couldn't find anything that comes close.)

Did you click the Download link? When expired it should take you to the download_time_out page explaining that it has expired ...

What version Zen Cart are you running?

Clean install or an upgrade? If an upgrade, how did you upgrade?

I've just implemented a fresh install of ZC.

As far as I know, the Download button displays the time-out message (this from a customer who timed out).

My question is about the Customer's Order page. For example, when I look at the order placed by the customer who timed out, the Download Order Status is flagged as Available (green) for the product. This makes no sense to me. I would think that ZC should flip the flag when download access times out.

Am I missing something?

Are you referring to the orders.php in the Admin?

I see what you are referring to ...

You are wanting the links to also show expired based on the order itself expiring and not just the count expiring ...

Let me see what I can come up with for a future update ...

7 days max is based on 7 days from the order date ...

That expires the download ...

You can however reactivate it ...

Currently, the legend is not reflecting when the expiration happens based on the order purchase date ...

So how do you reactivate it?

If you have 7 days and 5 downloads that is when the expiration happens on the download ...

Switching the order to Updated status will change the download(s) to active ...

Clicking on the icon next to the download will change the status on a given download ...

Ajeh - so if I understand you correctly, the download order status legend is only driven by the download count and not the expiration date?

If this is correct, then the only way that we can have the order legend status automatically show expired in a consistent manner would be to

1. set the number of downloads allowed per product to one - which would require the customer to contact us if there was a problem with the download so we could reactivate the download manually for them.

2. leave the download count at a number above one (for example two) and if the customer only downloads once, we would have to go into the admin and manually change the status to expired.

Or, we can just not worry about our expiration status legend in the admin and trust that if the customer tries a download after the expiration date that we set that it will take them to a time out/download error page?

I am also curious why downloads are not counted as "Stock Removed" and update the quantity accordingly even if we have the admin-->configuration-->stock-->subtract stock set to true.

My entire store is downloadable products and these two issues are making for a heck of a time with maintaining any sort of records without having to go through order confirmations one by one and manually updating each and every time a purchase is made.

There is missing the element of the Order is old and its effect on the legend ...

This will be updated in v1.3.8 to be more intelligent ...

The stock is not included at this time ... it is on the list of things to do in the future for either a reverse count or separate count as some downloads are optional physical -- or -- download ...

If stock is adjusting on you ... make sure that you do NOT have the Product set as:
Product is Virtual YES

Downloads are NOT Virtual Products ...

Downloads are NOT Always Free shipping Products ...

I know this is an old thread, but I'm also curious as to the update of this code.
Is there something that can be added to 1.3.7.1 to make both days and count change the status to expired?

Now the new question:
When this update in the the code is completed, can the customer's order confirmation page (with the download links) also have this green/yellow/red icon appear near the download button? I have a crazy setup here where some of my downloads are uploaded to my download folder AFTER checkout (custom coded by Scott - That Software Guy and my supplier's programmer). It monitors the SQL and uploads when a file is missing, but here's the problem that happens every once in a while. If that link is terminated between us (crash on my supplier's end, internet problems etc) the song isn't uploaded in the usual 3-5 minutes after payment of an order. With an easy page refresh, the customer can see the status icon change from red to green. Right now, we have it programmed to bring up a special message about the delay only when they click on the download button itself. When the file is not ready, the attempts stay at the maximum count, so they can click as much as needed until the file is in place. It would be nice to have the admin status icon on this page also. And maybe in the member's area when they view previous orders.

Any ideas?

Much more custom code and yes ... you can have all kinds of nice icons etc.

But to answer the first question, have you upgraded the code so the day also turns the icon to yellow when it's expired?
