What shows in a customer review?

Hey everyone...I hope you had some awesome holidays! My question is that my customer reviews are showing both the first and last name of a customer and I would prefer it only show the first name. Is there a way I can change this so that my customers do not feel that their personal info is being spread around every where?? Thanks in advance for your help :)

You would need to customize the:
/includes/modules/pages/product_reviews_write/header_php.php

you need to change the line:

    $sql = $db->bindVars($sql, ':customersName', $customer->fields['customers_firstname'] . ' ' . $customer->fields['customers_lastname'], 'string');

to what you want stored in the reviews table ...

Well shuckey darn! I tried to take that portion of customer lastname out and it is still showing the last name. There isnt anything else I want there..I just dont want it to show the last name is all....what did I do wrong?

Is there any way to make it show First Name and the Customer's City.... or first name and the customer's Forum ID if you have a forum set up from the start??

If you don't tell what you did, or what code you are using, it is very hard to provide a decent reply.

Linda gave you the code and instructions to do what you want. What did you do from there?

I haven't done anything to it yet, I'm not sure how to proceed.

Linda gave instructions on removing the last name and displaying only the first name.

What I need to do is remove the last name, and display only their first name AND the customer's City.

:unsure: The part where I'm confused is how to make it display the customer City.

Well this is what I did:

$sql = $db->bindVars($sql, ':customersName', $customer->fields['customers_firstname'] . ' ' . $customer->fields['customers_city'], 'string');
$sql = $db->bindVars($sql, ':rating', $rating, 'string');

it is still showing the last name......before I simply tried to take out the coding section for the last name to remove the field all together but that didnt work. I am new to coding so I am not html adept. I am trying to learn so please be patient with me :)

PS! Is this only going to work for new reviews or will it use those fields for the old reviews too? (this was the edit) :)

Well, the site won't be going live for another day or so, so they're aren't any old reviews to worry about, so only new reviews.

I've been messing with this for days and I can manage is to make the last name go away, but I can't put the city in.

I'm new to coding myself, so I definitely understand what you're going through and I appreciate your help. :smile:

LOL can you post the edit you made to make the last name go away :) That one I cant figure out to save my hiney!!

Look back at post #3 where Linda tells you where to find the file to modify and the line of code to change... and then remove this part..

customers_lastname

taking care to leave the single quotation marks in there

I have taken Linda's Code :flex:and gotten rid of the last name.

Could I instead of leaving it blank, replace php customers_lastname with ```php
customers_nick

And if so, how do I turn on the Nick Name in the first place...

 I see > Nick Name
> Minimum length of Nick Name in the Admin...but no references to how to turn it on....

and where would it appear? Create_account? would it be editable in my account?

I also removed customers_lastname from

from line 42 of the product reviews write header page...is that safe to do?:unsure:

one question about this...can this page be done as an override?

has no override file.

Its ok to change it, just make a note to yourself that you changed it, so that when you upgrade, you can change the new upgraded /includes/modules/pages/product_reviews_write/header_php.php file in the same way.

HELP! I made the changes to remove the last name, worked beautifully, however, now my review page is showing the wrong title and small thumbnail picture - the same wrong title and picture, on every review entry.

I reset the file from the backup so it's working right again, but the last names are back :(

i deleted the 'customers_lastname' tag from line 42 AND from line 80 and the last names are still showing up in all my reviews... does this not work on existing reviews, only new ones?

is there any way to change the way the existing reviews are displayed?

The reviews take the first and last name in the main customer table in your database and put them together in the reviews table in your database. So any reviews already compiled are set. The only way to eliminate the last name in the existing reviews is to physically go into your reviews table in your database and delete the last name in that column, leaving the first name intact.

If you are not used to going into the database or do not have a tool to do that, search the forum here for database editing advice. It is pretty scary, but can be done safely. You can't be reckless about it.
