Is it possible to have a feature in which i can receive files?

I am a newbie at zen-cart and I recently started an on-line print store and I wonder if there can be a feature in which an user can attach their images to their order? This will really help me..! Someone please and thanks.

Look in the Tutorials on Attributes and how to create Upload files ... this is built into Zen Cart ...

Re: Is it possible to have a feature in which i can receive files?

Then again ... maybe not ... could of sworn we had that defined better in there ...

You need to create an Option Name for uploads, if you have not already:

Set the Option Name as File ...

The Option Name does not get an Option Value as that is automatic ...

When you add it to the Product as an attribute select:
Option Name: File Upload (or whatever you called it)
Option Value: TEXT [RESERVED FOR TEXT/FILES ONLY ATTRIBUTES]

Now the customer can upload a file on the Product when they add it to the cart ...

Re: Is it possible to have a feature in which i can receive files?

NOTE: the uploaded file will be found in:
/images/uploads

and it will be renamed by a number to match what is referrenced in the Order where the details will read the number and the original filename ...

NOTE: the numbers are NOT related to the orders_id ... any similarity is mearly an illusion ...

Re: Is it possible to have a feature in which i can receive files?

I appreciate your help... unfortunately I am very new at this and I have no idea at how to create the new option even though you just explained. Where do I create this option name for uploads and where do I enter these attributes... ?

Re: Is it possible to have a feature in which i can receive files?

Let's say you want to create an Option Name for Uploading a file and you want to call it:
Your Logo

You would go to the Catalog ... Option Name Manager ... and enter the name:
Your Logo

and from the dropdown select:
File

Then click INSERT ...

Next, you would create your Product as usual ...

Once the Product is made, you would go to the Catalog ... Attributes Controller ... or click on the A for Attributes when looking at the Product in the Catalog/Products ...

Find your Product ...

From the Option Name dropdown pick the new one:
Your Logo

From the Option Value dropdown pick the one labeled:
TEXT [RESERVED FOR TEXT/FILES ONLY ATTRIBUTES]

Set your price if applicable and weight ...

Click INSERT ...

Now when you go to the Product there is a place for the customer to Upload their file to you ...

Re: Is it possible to have a feature in which i can receive files?

Hi, another Zen newbie here. I found this post as I was looking for the same solution. Everything works fine till the moment I add the item to the cart... where I get the "Error: destination not writeable" and file does not upload?!? I've installed ZenCart using Fantastico. The /images/uploads has 755 set as permissions. Do I need to change permissions in order to make it work and does it pose any risk?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Tnx

Re: Is it possible to have a feature in which i can receive files?

Why would you need an Upload link for the Admin on the Orders page?

The Upload is designed to be a file from the customer ...

Re: Is it possible to have a feature in which i can receive files?

You'd have to customize the code as this is not built into Zen Cart at this time as the files can be downloaded via FTP from the /images/uploads directory ...

Re: Is it possible to have a feature in which i can receive files?

Is it a feature (or request) that has been added on the list of an upcoming version?

I realize from a coding point-of-view that using FTP for the download(s) can be much easier but you must admit, it would be a 'touch of class' to be able to download Client file(s) that were uploaded, from within the Admin section.

The learning is in the doing.

Re: Is it possible to have a feature in which i can receive files?

We will think about it in the future ...

We realize that the average bear doesn't want to learn anything like double click on FlashFXP and connect to their website and download any new files that were uploaded ...

They think it is easier to click on a Link on the Order and lose the file while downloading it to their computer via the browser's download method or whatever else they might have on their computer ...

Re: Is it possible to have a feature in which i can receive files?

Not sure why the sarcasm?

When working in the Admin section it is much easier to download 'whatever' then to have to open an FTP program, make a connection and do the download. In these days of Networking, not everyone is accessing the Admin section from their personal computer.

And a download can be bunged up in all kinds of ways, regardless of what method is used.

The learning is in the doing.

HI Linda
Did That, Did That, Did That, Did That, Did That
Everything worked GREAT, except the order said that the filename was 1.filename.jpg and the file I found in my images/uploads/ folder was named just 1.jpg - I see the similarities in the filename, but will this naming convention continue on to the 20456th file?

Even for seasoned professionals, a link to dl the file on the order page would be greatly appreciated. Why the need to open another program to dl the file.

Really wasn't being sarcastic ...

Several owners have expressed that they are not coders and cannot learn new software and it would be easier to just have links or something that they can point and shoot ...

Sorry to see you took it that way ...

But we still wouldn't look at it until a future release and I cannot say which one that would be ...
