Running 1.3.8a with PayPal Express Checkout and Website Payments Pro.

I think the problem is to do with addresses, but not sure.

Re: ALERT: PayPal Express Checkout Error () - 7

Have you tried enabling debug logging ... ie: to file? (not just alerts)
What are the logs showing as the details behind the error?

Re: ALERT: PayPal Express Checkout Error () - 7

Didn't have logs activated when this problem occurred, but do have them activated now.

I got this error message when a customer tried to checkout this afternoon. To do a live test i logged into a customer account and tried to make a purchase with the a fake address on Zen-Cart, but my personal Paypal account with my real address. I received the same error message that the customer generated. I then changed the address in Zen-Cart to be my real address and the transaction went through successfully!

In the last 5 minutes, i changed my address on Zen-Cart to be fake (ie 1234 Test Street etc) and the transaction was successful so no log was generated!

Slightly baffled!

The same customer has just tried to checkout so the error has been re-created.

There are 7 logs created in total, but some have confidential customer details in them so i haven't posted them all. Please let me know if you need more details, but i think this may help with the problem:

Re: ALERT: PayPal Express Checkout Error () - 7

Is this happening only with Express Checkout?
Are there any discount order-total modules installed?
Any coupons or gift certificates or other discounts in the orders that are triggering the error?
Was this an upgrade to 1.3.8 from a prior version?
What shipping methods do you have enabled? What option was selected for checkout?
What tax rates are being applied to this order?

The detailed PayPal_CURL......log file with the actual transaction details (ie: DoExpressCheckoutPayment or DoDirectPayment) would be helpful. Names, street address (not city/state/zip) and email addresses can be obfuscated for privacy.

Re: ALERT: PayPal Express Checkout Error () - 7

This specific error has only happened in Express Checkout. I had previous errors with addresses but made the changes outlined here: http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showth...t=83968&page=7

We have a number of discount coupons active, but no mods which affect order totals installed.

This was a 1.3.8a clean install.

We have installed: Free Shipping (and free shipping options), Royal Mail 1st Class Recorded, Royal Mail Airmail, Royal Mail Special Delivery (all from Big Royal Mail Mod), European Shipping (table), United Kingdom Zone Rates for Couriers (the shipping selected for this order) and International Shipping (zones).

Other Add-ons installed: Super Orders 2.0, Admin Notes file, Big Royal Mail 2.2.1a1, Capitalize Signup Fields 1.0b, Categories Menu Yahoo Tree Menu with Ajax, Fual Slimbox v0.1.5, Ultimate SEO URL's 2.106.

VAT of 17.5% is included in all prices (sometimes to only defined to 2 decimal places for attributes if this makes any difference!).

Error logs can be downloaded here. Let me know if you need the other logs (PayPal_Action.....log etc).

Thanks.

Re: ALERT: PayPal Express Checkout Error () - 7

There are two sets of fixes for the country/state issues in the thread you mentioned:
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=498374&postcount=48
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=504386&postcount=62
Have you done both?

Also, it appears that the Handling Charge is being set equal to the amount of the taxes, thus causing your "totals don't match" problems ... which leads me to the rest of the questions in my prior post.
So, to rule out your many addons, can you switch to Flat Rate shipping?

Also, are you "using" any coupons during these tests?

If the Flat Rate shipping also allows this same error to occur, I'll need to see the action logs as well.

Re: ALERT: PayPal Express Checkout Error () - 7

Both sets of fixes have been applied, although an order has just come through and it's still missing the 'state' field!!

No, we're not able to switch to flat shipping. This particular order which generated that error has gone through successfully via credit card so i can't get him to test with flat shipping either.

No coupon was used when this order was generated.

Re: ALERT: PayPal Express Checkout Error () - 7

Another transaction just produced this problem, error logs can be found here.

Any ideas what might be causing this? This error was produced with a different shipping module than the last one, although both out of Big Royal Mail which is written for 1.3.7.

Thanks.

Re: ALERT: PayPal Express Checkout Error () - 7

[ITEMAMT] => 27.00
[HANDLINGAMT] => 4.61
[SHIPPINGAMT] => 4.66
[TAXAMT] => 3.92
[AMT] => 30.97

27.00 + 4.61 + 4.66 + 3.92 .... does not equal 30.97.

In fact, 30.97 - 27.00 - 3.92 ... equals 0.05 ... and that doesn't even take into account the shipping let alone the handling.
Granted, the difference between shipping and handling is 0.05.
The handling amount is currently used as a catch-all for amounts which don't fall into products, shipping, or taxes.
I suspect you've got your store set up to "include taxes in prices", but maybe your shipping is set up with tax handled differently.
If you turn the store into "do NOT include taxes in prices" mode, do all of these problems go away?

Re: ALERT: PayPal Express Checkout Error () - 7

The order has gone through via credit card as follows:

Total (inc tax): 27
Shipping: 3.97
included tax: 4.61
Grand Total: 30.97

Where are the following coming from?
[SHIPPINGAMT] => 4.66
[TAXAMT] => 3.92

EDIT: I've not tried turning off taxes as we have mandatory VAT and must show prices including and excluding VAT depending on where the customer lives. I also don't know if i can replicate this problem as the last time i tried there were no problems! This sale has an attribute which is has a price as well.

2nd EDIT: (i should read your whole post properly before replying!!) shipping modules are all set to include tax and i have only one tax rate so it should all be the same).

Re: ALERT: PayPal Express Checkout Error () - 7

If you add tax to the correct shipping price, does that calculate to one of the unexpected numbers?

Zen Cart attempts to combine the shipping tax with the shipping rate, because PayPal doesn't seem to have any built-in mathematics logic for understanding how taxes are applied when it relates to shipping ... they only allow taxes to be included for each product line-item, not shipping. It's quite a convoluted challenge. Maybe PayPal thinks the world should be American?

Re: ALERT: PayPal Express Checkout Error () - 7

Product net: 17.0213, gross: 20.00
Attribute net: 5.96, gross: 7.0003
Shipping net: 3.38. gross: 3.9715

=> total tax= 2.9877+ 1.043 + 0.5915 = 4.622 (the 4.62 as Zen-Cart calculated)

Shipping gross: 3.9715 * 1.175 (UK VAT) = 4.6665125 (the 4.66 calculated by Paypal)

Not sure about the 3.92.

Re: ALERT: PayPal Express Checkout Error () - 7

Two more occurrences of this error.

Is there any way to turn off Express Checkout while keeping Website Payments Pro active?

Or, setting the handling charge to always be zero, as i never charge a handling charge in my store.

Thanks.

Re: ALERT: PayPal Express Checkout Error () - 7

A few more errors here.

I'm getting a little anxious to find out what is causing this problem. Where is PEC generating these numbers?

On all the transactions, the total minus the item amount is our shipping charge, and the handling charge is our tax amount:

[ITEMAMT] => 17.00 (our correct item amount)
[HANDLINGAMT] => 3.10 (our tax amount)
[SHIPPINGAMT] => 4.48
[TAXAMT] => 2.43
[AMT] => 20.81 (our total)

=> our shipping amount = 20.81-17.00=3.81.

We are using Big Royal Mail as a shipping module, this particular module is Royal Mail 1st Class Recorded with the following settings: Minimum order value=0.00, Maximum order value=-1, Handling Fee=0.00 (just changed from blank to see if this has any effect).

Re: ALERT: PayPal Express Checkout Error () - 7

I changed the shipping module last night in case the problem was coming from the Royal Mail shipping module. I used the 'Duplicate Table Rate' module to create a secondary table rate and entered the cost details from Royal Mail. When i did this, i realised that the Royal Mail shipping module automatically adds a £0.70 handling charge, which is where the unknown numbers were being generated.

So, the new shipping module is set up as follows:

*Name: UK Royal Mail First Class Recorded

Enable Table Method
True

Shipping Table
0.1:1.79, 0.25:2.08, 0.5:2.54, 0.75:3.08, 1.0:3.62, 1.25:4.95, 1.5:5.70, 1.75:6.45, 2:7.20, 2.25:7.95, 2.5:8.70, 2.75:9.45, 3:10.20, 3.25:10.95, 3.5:11.70, 3.75:12.45, 4:13.20, 4.25:13.95, 4.5:14.70, 4.75:15.45, 5:16.20, 5.25:16.95, 5.5:17.70, 5.75:18.45, 6:19.20

Table Method
weight

Handling Fee
0

Tax Class
VAT

Tax Basis
Shipping

Shipping Zone
UKALL

Sort Order
500*

The zone UKALL comprises all UK states, but does not have a tax rate attached to it. Instead, there is an EEC zone which includes the UK and all other countries in the EEC and applies tax to that. I don't know if this is important, but thought it was worth mentioning.

The new error log generated this morning is as follows:

[ITEMAMT] => 	£289.00
[HANDLINGAMT] => 	£45.88
[SHIPPINGAMT] => 	£22.37
[TAXAMT] => 	£42.55
[AMT] => 	£308.04

From sale details as follows:

Sub-Total: £289.00 (£245.96 + £43.04 tax)
Shipping: £19.04 (£16.20 + £2.84 tax)
Tax @ 17.5%: £45.88 (£43.04 + £2.84)
Total: £308.04

So, PayPal is taking the item amount OK.
It is taking the tax as the handling amount.
It is adding an extra tax of 17.5% to the shipping amount (£16.201.175=£19.041.175=£22.37. £22.37-£19.04=£3.33).
It is then subtracting that extra portion of the double shipping tax from actual tax amount (£45.88-£3.33=£42.55) and making that the tax amount.

Obviously, the totals then don't match.

I would really appreciate some help on this as i really can't see what i could be doing wrong at my end and i am losing sales every day because of this problem.
Thanks.

Re: ALERT: PayPal Express Checkout Error () - 7

Could this be a tax problem?

I have one tax rate at 17.5000%. I have 6 zone definitions:

EEC VAT zone - 27 Countries including all UK zones. VAT applied to this zone.
EU - 26 countries without UK.
UKAll - All UK zones.
UK Zone 1 - All UK zones
UK Zone 2 - Scottish Highlands
UK Zone 3 - UK islands.

EEC VAT zone is the only one to have a tax rate applied to it.
